Job Title: Account Officer

Location: Owode Onirin, Lagos

Employment Type: Full-time

Reports To: Bakery owner

Job Overview

  • The Account Officer will be responsible for overseeing all financial transactions within the bakery.
  • This includes maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, handling accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring the smooth flow of financial processes in the bakery’s operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Record Keeping:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records for all bakery transactions.
    • Ensure all sales, purchases, and expenses are properly recorded.
    • Reconcile daily sales and cash deposits with financial records.
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable:
    • Process invoices and ensure timely payments to suppliers and vendors.
    • Follow up on outstanding customer payments and maintain an up-to-date receivables ledger.
    • Monitor customer credit limits and ensure timely collection.
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
    • Assist in budget preparation and monitor actual performance against budget.
  • Tax Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with local tax regulations and handle VAT/GST filings if applicable.
    • Prepare and file any required tax returns and reports.
  • Payroll:
    • Assist with payroll processing, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.
    • Maintain records of employee deductions and benefits.
  • Inventory Management:
    • Track inventory levels, including raw materials and finished products.
    • Monitor and record any discrepancies in inventory counts and report issues promptly.
  • Bank Reconciliation:
    • Reconcile the bakery’s bank accounts and credit card statements monthly.
    • Ensure all transactions align with accounting records and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Audit Support:
    • Assist with internal and external audits as required.
    • Provide requested financial documentation and support the audit process.
  • Customer Service:
    • Address any financial inquiries from customers, vendors, or staff promptly and professionally.
    • Assist the management team in cost-saving initiatives and financial decision-making.

Qualifications

  • A Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in accounting or bookkeeping, preferably in the food or retail industry.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and software (QuickBooks, Xero, or similar).
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with the bakery team.

Salary
