Job Title: Environmental Officer

Description 

  • Action Against Hunger is currently looking to fill the role of Environmental Officer who will be responsible for piloting/testing the environmental actions of the logistics action plan at the mission level.

Key Responsibilities

  • According to the identification of the volumes and categories of waste by the Action Against Hunger Office and Guest House, map the recycling channels present in the areas of intervention, during site visits;
  • Carry out assessments during visits;
  • Identify the hazardous waste management channels;
  • Development of the collection process in the capital and bases and bases-capital, towards the recycling channels;
  • Initiate contracts with the recycling and waste management sectors, and framework recycling contracts;
  • Collect/capitalize program expectations on waste (written report to be relayed on coordination and headquarters);
  • In close collaboration with the country office Procurement focal point, having analyzed strategic markets, contextualized Environmental, Social, and Good Governance (ESG) risks in the risk matrix;
  • Test the sustainable criteria and therefore the supplier’s ability to meet them;
  • Identify supply chains for second-hand equipment, and ensure the reliability of these supplies;
  • Identify the types/composition of packaging, and supplier;
  • List quality & environmental standards and labels at the country level (according to strategic markets);
  • Collect data and indicator tracking table, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs);
  • Ensure internal communication on the results obtained at the level of the mission and headquarters;
  • Capitalization report.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or other relevant field of study;
  • Minimum of 2 years’ extensive experience in Environmental compliance or Management or Supply Chain Management/Coordination, preferably in Humanitarian or development work;
  • Working knowledge of the Federal, State, or local environmental regulations;
  • Excellent attention to detail, highly organized, rigorous, self-motivated, strong sense of responsibility, ability to work independently;
  • Expert User of Microsoft Office Suite 2016 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
  • Ability to manage and follow work plans;
  • Strong verbal, written, and communication skills;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Ability to work effectively in diverse, cross-cultural teams in a complex, multi-site work environment;
  • Good interpersonal skills – approachable, diplomatic, able to negotiate, influence, give and receive effective feedback, be a team player;
  • Fluent in English both written and verbal;
  • Ability to educate others on environmental issues and compliance with regulations.
