Job Title: Financial Controller

Location: Ikeja, Lagos

Employment Type: Full-time

Role Summary

  • We are seeking a dynamic Financial Controller to oversee its financial operations and drive strategic financial planning as it scales its business operations, and products.
  • This role ensures sound financial management to support the company’s transformation goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive financial strategies to support the company’s transformation and growth objectives.
  • Align financial planning with the company’s financing business model to maximize profitability and market positioning.
  • Ensure all financial statements and reports are prepared in full compliance with IFRS and other applicable accounting standards.
  • Lead the preparation of annual budgets and multi-year financial forecasts • Monitor budget adherence and provide variance analyses with actionable recommendations.
  • Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements, including tax laws, industry standards, and corporate governance frameworks; and serve as the key liaison with regulatory bodies and tax authorities.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve robust internal controls to safeguard assets and achieve accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks, including currency, market, and credit risks.
  • Oversee liquidity management and achieve the optimization of cash flow to support operational needs and strategic investments.
  • Manage relationships with banks and financial institutions to secure favorable terms for funding and credit facilities.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, and ensure timely resolution of audit findings and implementation of recommendations.
  • Oversee the preparation of audit schedules and serve as the primary point of contact for auditors.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze financial models to evaluate potential investments, pricing strategies, and market opportunities.
  • Provide detailed financial insights to support decision-making at the executive levels.
  • Monitor and control operational costs and implement cost-saving measures without compromising quality
  • Conduct profitability analyses for product lines and services, and proactively recommend adjustments as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements within the finance function to enhance efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Lead the selection and implementation of financial management systems and tools.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to align financial strategies with business objectives.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO, presenting financial updates and strategic recommendations.
  • Build and lead a high-performing finance team and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and execute tax strategies to optimize the company’s tax position while ensuring compliance.
  • Oversee timely and accurate filing of tax returns and reports.
  • Monitor economic trends and market conditions to anticipate and address financial challenges proactively.

Specification / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance, Accounting, or related field; MSc/MBA is a plus.
  • Chartered Accountant with ACA, ACCA, or equivalent certifications.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive financial management experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Expertise in financial modelling, analysis, and reporting.
  • Strong understanding of fintech operations and BNPL models.
