Job Description
- The Engineer VAS – Messaging Operations will report to the Manager: Messaging Operations; the individual SPOC for messaging for MTN GC.
- The individual is responsible for planning, designing, delivering, and supporting the Messaging solutions in line with the business requirements
Responsibilities
Key Performance Areas: Core, essential responsibilities / outputs of the position (KPA’s)
The role will be accountable to achieve the following objectives:
- To act as a Subject Matter Expert for Messaging in MTN GC
- To coordinate and manage vendor activities during the project deployment to guarantee market time and compliance with partner requirements.
- To drive Messaging Services features and platform evolution inside the MTN GC, through harmonization & hosting projects, in cooperation with partners and Opcos within the region.
- Developing and maintain technical project documentation.
- Delivering detailed functional and technical analysis against project work packages in line with solution designers in other squads; handshakes on the specifications of the integration points.
- Preparing design documents for the delivery.
- Together with Ops and Infrastructure teams, studies dimensioning for the systems in the domain based on the traffic forecast provided by the business unit.
- Translating requirements into engineering design and logical units of work (tasks) with the solution developers.
- Supporting testers for test case preparation, reviews test cases.
- Participating in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for Messaging projects before production releases.
- Facilitating UAT and production issues investigation.
- Providing design support for defects and issues raised by relevant stakeholders regarding the domain under the team’s responsibility.
- Preparing and present solutions for IT Architecture Board.
- Executing RFP/RFP & SOW process if required.
- Working with the solution architect to maintain product roadmaps and target architecture.
- Reviewing and approving vendor design documents; follow-ups vendor development.
- To drive cross-functional projects and alignment, especially with commercial and security teams.
Qualifications
Education:
- Minimum 4-year Academic Degree (B Eng. / BSc Degree preferred)
- Relevant certification/accreditation/membership with professional body as required for role
- Fluent in English and language of country (preferable)
Experience:
- 5+ years’ experience in an engineering field
- Expert in SMS/SS7/IP/SMPP data solutions
- Experience with SMS Routing, Hub and Firewall technology
- Knowledge of UNIX-Solaris, AIX, HPUX, Windows, Linux and cloud technology
- Understanding of Change Management Life Cycle Principles
- System Support and Trouble Analysis skills (root cause analysis, alarm management platforms, troubleshooting, etc.)
- Server & System Administration skills
- Knowledge of Analysis Tools
- Hardware installation and repair skills
- Knowledge of OSI network protocol design
- Knowledge of Configuration, Backup, and Restoral processes necessary to support the telephony/voice infrastructure
- Experience using and writing technical documentation
- High level vendor certifications (i.e., CCNA)

- The roaming engineer will be responsible for set up, implement, monitor & manage all policies and procedures relating to International Roaming activities
Responsibilities

The role will be accountable to achieve the following objectives:
- To act as a Subject Matter Expert for Roaming VAS in MTN GC
- To perform operation activities on the Roaming VAS platform (Steering, Border Control, GLR, Welcome SMS etc).
- To Configure all parameters linked to the Roaming VAS application
- Implement new IR partner data according to IR.21 specification.
- Implement commercial roaming data for partners announced to be launched commercially.
- Update new IR partner’s data when required.
- Monitor the international roaming performance.
- Ensure consistency, accuracy and integrity of all related data and documentation
- Attend to all logged/assigned IR related faults and queries.
- Conduct trouble shooting and problem resolutions to all IR related faults or queries.
- Provide technical roaming support to internal divisions within the organization.
- Assist all divisions with roaming related technical problems.
- Liaise with foreign operators, internal departments and external parties with regards to roaming related issues.
- Prepare all required IR reports related to the activities within the roaming section.

3). Coordinator – Regional Safety (Human Resources)

Description
- Drive day-day safety compliance in the region and engage incident marshals to do same for locations without safety officer.
- Advice and Support MTN Regional Management and Staff on Results from Audits / Risk Assessments Related to the Following Areas: – Work Areas, Operation, Critical Jobs, Critical Tasks to Ensure Safe Working Environment at All Times.
- Conduct Regular Safety Surveillance to Identify Hazards and Proactively Prevent Incidents.
- Review and communicate safety scorecard/ targets to regional employees for operation in line with mtn safety annual plan and evaluate contractor safety performance in the region.
- Co-Ordinate Safety and Housekeeping Audits on MTN Facilities, And on Contractor’s Offices/ Sites as the need arises, to monitor compliance with approved safety standards and/or relevant local legislation and best practice. Also, co-Ordinate pre-mobilization audits for clients within area of coverage.
- Participate actively through provision of advice and support during regional incident investigation to establish root cause, cascade lateral learnings and make recommendations to minimize re-occurrence.
- Monitor MTNN contractors on safety issues and ensure compliance with MTNN safety policy requirements.
- Produce weekly and monthly safety performance report on the regional activities to support the overall safety objectives and quarterly regional performance report.
- Participate in the development and review of safety processes and procedures by ensuring that documentation is done in line with safety standards and/or best practice.
- Oversee activities of direct reports and ensure all transactions and administrative documentation is recorded and available for business use.
- Ensure timely resolution of all applicable/ relevant internal concerns within scope
- Provide Safety support and guidance throughout all activities.
Requirements
Education:
- First Degree in any Sciences or Engineering or Arts / Humanities
- MSc or MBA in relevant field will be an added advantage.
Experience:
- 3 – 7 years relevant experience in SHE Management / Coordination
- Membership of Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON), and any other recognized HSE Organization
- NEBOSH International General Certificate and/or ISO 45001 Lead Auditor’s Course Certificate
- Experience working in a medium organization
- Experience in Professional Safety, Health and Environment Functions, with good exposure/level of experience in HSE
- Proficient in MS Office Applications and other Microsoft tools
- Ability to use and understand SHE software tools and applications, and apply it to work.
