Our Farm-Farmer School is equipped with boarding facilities, a central refectory, demo plots and recreation facilities all sustainably solar powered. Job Summary
- We are seeking a Graduate Intern (Agricultural Engineer) to join our team and gain hands-on experience in farm mechanization, irrigation systems, post-harvest technology, and renewable energy solutions in agriculture.
- The ideal candidate will work closely with experienced professionals at our SCL Farm-Farmer School, Kwali, contributing to the design, implementation, and maintenance of agricultural engineering systems that support sustainable farming operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, installation, and maintenance of irrigation systems for efficient water management.
- Support the operation and maintenance of farm machinery, including tractors, plows, and other mechanized equipment.
- Participate in research and development of post-harvest handling and storage technologies.
- Assist in the design and implementation of renewable energy solutions (e.g., solar power) for farm operations.
- Conduct technical assessments and recommend improvements for farm infrastructure.
- Collaborate with agronomists and other specialists to optimize farming operations through engineering innovations.
- Engage in farm data collection, analysis, and reporting to improve efficiency and sustainability.
- Support training sessions at the SCL Farm-Farmer School, educating farmers on mechanization, irrigation, and engineering solutions in agriculture.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and biosecurity measures in all engineering projects.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Recent graduate with a Degree in Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related fields.
- Strong interest in farm mechanization, irrigation, and sustainable agricultural technologies.
- Basic knowledge of farm machinery operation and maintenance.
- Proficiency in engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) is an advantage.
- Good analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a practical farm environment and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Willingness to reside on the farm premises as required for training and work experience.
