Job Title: Head Nurse

Location: Lagos

Job Summary:

  • The Head Nurse provides leadership, supervision, and coordination of nursing care across all units at Tranquil and Quest Specialist Hospital. This role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care, managing nursing staff, implementing clinical best practices, and ensuring compliance with professional standards and hospital policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operations of nursing services across all wards and clinical units.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the performance of nurses and healthcare assistants.
  • Ensure that all nursing care is delivered in accordance with established clinical protocols, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and training of new nursing staff.
  • Develop and implement schedules, rosters, and shift allocations for nursing teams.
  • Monitor and enforce infection prevention and control practices.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic, patient-centered care.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and nursing audits to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate nursing documentation, incident reports, and clinical records.
  • Address staff or patient concerns and resolve conflicts professionally.
  • Ensure adequate stock of nursing supplies and medical consumables in collaboration with the procurement department.
  • Support continuous professional development and encourage in-service training for nursing staff.
  • Uphold a compassionate, safe, and professional environment for both patients and staff.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) and Registered Midwife (RM) with a valid license from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
  • B.Sc. in Nursing or equivalent qualification is required. Postgraduate qualification in Nursing Administration or Management is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of post-qualification experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and understanding of nursing standards, hospital procedures, and healthcare regulations.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in documentation, report writing, and use of basic computer applications (MS Word, Excel).
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, manage crises, and make effective decisions.
