Job Description

  • The Head of Legal is responsible for providing advice and guidance to the organization and managing the legal department.
  • He/She will ensure compliance with laws and regulations, draft and review legal documents, handle legal disputes, and provide guidance on issues related to the organization’s operations and activities.

Responsibilities

  • Providing legal advice and guidance to the organization on a wide range of legal issues.
  • Managing the legal department, including supervising and mentoring staff.
  • Ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, including corporate, contract, labour, intellectual property, and other relevant areas.
  • Drafting and reviewing legal documents, such as contracts, agreements, and policies.
  • Handling legal disputes and guiding on litigation matters.
  • Providing legal guidance on transactions, mergers, and acquisitions.
  • Identifying and managing legal risks to the organization.
  • Representing the organization in legal proceedings and negotiations.
  • Keeping abreast of changes in laws and regulations that may affect the organization.
  • Providing training and education to staff on legal and compliance matters.
  • Collaborating with other departments and teams to ensure that legal considerations are taken into account in decision-making processes.
  • Ensuring compliance with laws, regulations and industry best practices about legal matters.
  • Managing and coordinating the organization’s legal budget and financial record-keeping for legal functions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Laws Degree and Call to the Nigerian Bar.
  • Professional qualification in relevant field will be an added advantage.
  • Relevant work experience with at least 6 years in a supervisory role.
