Job Description
- The Head of Legal is responsible for providing advice and guidance to the organization and managing the legal department.
- He/She will ensure compliance with laws and regulations, draft and review legal documents, handle legal disputes, and provide guidance on issues related to the organization’s operations and activities.
Responsibilities
- Providing legal advice and guidance to the organization on a wide range of legal issues.
- Managing the legal department, including supervising and mentoring staff.
- Ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, including corporate, contract, labour, intellectual property, and other relevant areas.
- Drafting and reviewing legal documents, such as contracts, agreements, and policies.
- Handling legal disputes and guiding on litigation matters.
- Providing legal guidance on transactions, mergers, and acquisitions.
- Identifying and managing legal risks to the organization.
- Representing the organization in legal proceedings and negotiations.
- Keeping abreast of changes in laws and regulations that may affect the organization.
- Providing training and education to staff on legal and compliance matters.
- Collaborating with other departments and teams to ensure that legal considerations are taken into account in decision-making processes.
- Ensuring compliance with laws, regulations and industry best practices about legal matters.
- Managing and coordinating the organization’s legal budget and financial record-keeping for legal functions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Laws Degree and Call to the Nigerian Bar.
- Professional qualification in relevant field will be an added advantage.
- Relevant work experience with at least 6 years in a supervisory role.
