Job Summary
- The Human Resources Officer at Discovering Talents Academy is responsible for executing a wide range of HR functions that support the school’s mission and foster a positive, productive, and compliant work environment for all staff.
- This role involves managing the employee lifecycle from recruitment and onboarding to performance management and staff relations, ensuring DTA attracts, develops, and retains high-quality talent.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment and Selection:
- Collaborate with department heads to understand staffing needs and develop accurate job descriptions.
- Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, including posting job advertisements, screening applications, coordinating interviews, conducting reference checks, and preparing offer letters.
- Ensure all recruitment practices align with DTA’s values and relevant labour laws.
Onboarding and Orientation:
- Facilitate a smooth and comprehensive onboarding process for new hires, including preparing employment contracts, collecting necessary documentation, and conducting initial orientation sessions.
- Ensure new staff are familiar with DTA’s policies, procedures, mission, and culture.
Employee Relations and Welfare:
- Serve as a primary point of contact for staff inquiries, concerns, and grievances, providing guidance and support in a confidential and empathetic manner.
- Assist in mediating disputes and resolving conflicts to promote a harmonious working environment.
- Administer employee welfare programs and initiatives, contributing to staff morale and well-being.
- Manage staff exit processes, including exit interviews and final settlements.
HR Policies and Compliance:
- Assist in the development, review, and implementation of HR policies, procedures, and the staff handbook, ensuring they are current, fair, and legally compliant.
- Stay updated on Nigerian labor laws and educational sector regulations to ensure DTA’s HR practices adhere to all statutory requirements.
- Prepare and submit required statutory HR reports and filings.
Performance Management and Development:
- Support the implementation of DTA’s performance appraisal system, assisting in goal setting, performance reviews, and feedback processes.
- Identify training and development needs across departments and coordinate relevant professional development programs for staff.
- Assist in managing disciplinary actions and grievance procedures in accordance with DTA policy and legal guidelines.
Compensation and Benefits Administration:
- Support the administration of staff compensation and benefits programs, including gathering payroll data, leave management, and assisting with benefit enrollments.
- Maintain accurate records related to compensation, benefits, and statutory remittances.
HR Record Keeping and Information Management:
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date employee records (digital and physical).
- Manage the school’s Human Resources Information System (HRIS) if applicable, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, Psychology, or a related field.
- Certification: Professional certification (e.g., Associate, full member of Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria – CIPM) is a significant advantage.
- Experience: Minimum of [e.g., 2-4] years of progressive experience in Human Resources, preferably within the education sector.
- Knowledge: Solid understanding of Nigerian labor laws and HR best practices.

Salary
- N100,000 – N150,000 / month.
