1). Local Plant Operator

Job Identification: 319

Location: Ikorodu, Lagos

Job Schedule: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The Local Plant Operator is responsible for conducting routine local patrols, monitoring assigned power-generating units, and ensuring safe and efficient plant operations in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • The role involves checking for abnormalities, reporting plant conditions, and executing field operational tasks as instructed by the control room team.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Local Patrol & Equipment Inspection:

  • Conduct periodic patrols of assigned boiler, turbine, condenser, feedwater system, cooling systems, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Check for leaks, unusual noises, excessive vibrations, abnormal temperatures, and pressure fluctuations.
  • Identify and report potential safety hazards, system faults, or irregularities in plant operations.

Execution of Field Operations:

  • Operate manual field equipment such as valves, pumps, and drain/vent systems.
  • Monitor auxiliary systems including fuel supply, cooling water, and lubrication systems.
  • Implement plant shutdown/start-up instructions by executing field-based procedures as directed.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Follow plant safety protocols, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and emergency response procedures.
  • Participate in routine safety drills, toolbox talks, and compliance training.
  • Ensure plant housekeeping standards by keeping assigned areas clean and free of hazards.

Reporting & Documentation:

  • Record equipment status, observations, and any interventions in the shift logbook.
  • Communicate plant conditions, deviations, and field actions to the control room operator.
  • Provide clear and detailed handover reports for incoming shifts.

Maintenance Support:

  • Assist maintenance teams in preparing equipment for servicing, ensuring isolation and access.
  • Provide real-time feedback on equipment performance and potential failures.
  • Support troubleshooting activities by assisting technical teams with field assessments.

Emergency Response & Troubleshooting:

  • Execute emergency shutdown/startup procedures in coordination with the control room team.
  • Respond to plant trips, leaks, and equipment malfunctions with appropriate field interventions.
  • Participate in fire drills and emergency preparedness training

Education and Work Experience

  • Minimum of OND (Ordinary National Diploma) or Technical Certificate in Mechanical, Electrical, or Power Plant Engineering.
  • 0 to 2+ years of experience in a power generation plant, refinery, or heavy industrial process plant.
  • Prior experience in steam turbine operations or thermal power plants is an added advantage.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:

  • Basic knowledge of power plant processes, including steam cycles, boiler operations, and cooling systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret pressure, temperature, flow gauges, and P&ID diagrams.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations, permit-to-work systems, and emergency shutdown procedures.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for pumps, valves, pipes, and auxiliary equipment.

2). Chemical Operations Technician

Job Summary

  • The Chemical Operations Technician will be responsible for assisting in chemical treatment activities, operations of the condensate polishing plant, demineralization of groundwater, water treatment plant, and operation of the estate water booster.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in ensuring high availability and reliability of the condensate polishing unit and online analyzers.
  • Assist in the production and sufficient stocking of Demineralized water for the units.
  • Assist in chemical treatment activities required for the purification of steam.
  • Ensure availability of the condensate polishing plant for units 1-6.
  • Maintenance of condensate polishing unit and online analyzers.
  • Carry out routine checks on online meters and injection of agents in meters.
  • Assist in the optimization of the equipment lifecycle.
  • Assist in the operation & maintenance of the estate booster and water system in the plant.
  • Carry out local patrol activities, and monitor and check on equipment.
  • Assist the chemical process engineer in demineralization plant operations.
  • Assist in monitoring and conditioning the Boiler Feed water.
  • Take and keep a record of all relevant readings and results of tests done.
  • Keep and maintain a daily log of periodic (Every two hours) water sample analysis results and identify irregularities.
  • Ensure zero per cent deposition of impurities in the power cycle.
  • Conduct daily routine plant checks and ensure critical plant factors such as chemical levels, sand filter levels, pump efficiency etc. are within optimum operational levels and safe conditions.
  • Responsible for weekly preparation, analysis and monitoring of Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) at the Hydrogen Plant.
  • Perform periodic sampling and analysis of water samples, preparation and maintenance of bulk chemicals in the water treatment plant.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of all bulk chemicals.
  • Carry out any other task as assigned by the Section Head, Chemical Process or Chemical Process Engineer
  • Prepare periodic reports for the attention of the Chemical Process Engineer.
  • Implement data protection policies and practices of Egbin Power Plc.
  • Ensure compliance with the NDPR and other data protection laws, and data protection policies.
  • Undertake Data Protection Impact Assessment as applicable to curb the risk during data processing operations.
  • Ensure awareness, understanding and application of QHSE policy and application of departmental objectives.
  • Ensure awareness of the Integrated Management System (ISO 9001:2015, 14001:2015 &45001:2018) and the implications of not conforming with the requirements.
  • Understand and identify hazards, risks, environmental aspects and impacts as it is related to their jobs.

Education and Work Experience

  • Minimum of OND in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Biochemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • 0-3 years of relevant work experience.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of the operation of CPP plant and online analyzers.
  • Knowledge of the operation of a Water Treatment Plant.
  • Understanding of the operation of the demineralized Plant.
  • Good laboratory techniques and practices.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Knowledge of chemistry operations in power plants, steam-water chemistry, and effluent treatment.

3). Mechanical Mtce Technician

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct Shift Inspection of all turbine/boiler installation ancillary systems.
  • Ensure the Turbine BOP units are maintained in a preventive manner to ensure optimum reliability and uptime.
  • Troubleshoots turbine malfunctions and diagnose mechanical problems.
  • Responsible for repairing malfunctioning equipment such as pumps, motors and other components.
  • Ensure all safety rules and safe work procedures are followed by themselves and others working around the Turbine BOPs.
  • Routine maintenance of spares to ensure that equipment is available when required.
  • Implement data protection policies and practices of Egbin Power Plc.

  • Prior experience in steam turbine operations or thermal power plants is an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Good Technical Knowledge of Turbine installations.
  • Knowledge of standard operating procedures for maintenance of turbines.
  • Knowledge of Safety requirements.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Possess sound professional communication skills.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts.
  • Must be Computer Literate.
