1). Site SHE Officer

Reports to: SHE Manager Nigeria (Oregun)

Job Purpose

  • The site SHE Manager has overall responsibility for managing Safety, Health & Environment improvement activities to achieve excellence at the site level.
  • S/he works with site Supply Chain teams to develop the local SHE Strategy and improvement plans in order to achieve sustainable SHE excellence by reducing injuries, illnesses and environmental impact as measured in the core KPIs.
  • Where geographical proximity, size and complexity permit, this role cover one site

What Will Your Main Responsibilities Be

  • Conduct trend analysis from incidents, near misses, safe behavior observations and deep compliance audits
  • Ensure the implementation of safety and compliance at Partners (Collaborate manufacturers) and site locations
  • Provide weekly, monthly, quarterly & annual safety updates to leadership.
  • Support the safety pillar and Environment pillar in accordance to Unilever manufacturing systems
  • Drive safety and environment risk assessment and develop/implement appropriate controls
  • In coordination with SHE Manager plan the H&S activities, defining the measures required to be implemented on site, in accordance with the legislation, internal policies and OHS Plan.
  • Complete safety assessment checklists and develop recommended risk mitigation measures with some guidance from SHE Manager.
  • Coordinate the Implementation of the annual SHE Training plan
  • Support compliance to the permit to work system- capability building and governance
  • Site Warehouse safety plan implementation
  • Roll out the safe travel program to internal employees and 3rd parties
  • Verify with local authorities the conformity with the regulations, the mandatory licenses, and reports.
  • Verify the existence and validity of the mandatory H&S documentation of the Subcontractors and all the workers on site;
  • Promote the Health and Safety culture among all the workers, disseminating awareness campaigns, making Induction Trainings, Tool-box-Trainings and Emergency Drill Exercises.
  • Distribute and/or verify the use of the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and their condition.
  • Perform internal H&S inspections and audits, collecting evidences and reporting incidents and non-conformities, searching for continuous improvements of the processes;
  • Collect and report periodically the data needed for the H&S KPIs calculations and monitoring;
  • Act as a primary or secondary responder to safety incidents involving all staff during office hours, and escalating incident response management to SHE & Site leadership when necessary
  • Provide First-aid assistance in case of accidents
  • Take the necessary measures to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene on the site, preventing and taking care of any possible illness situation affecting employees .
  • Participate in emergency and fire-fighting teams in accordance with the specific plans.

Experiences & Qualifications
Essential:

  • University Degree in Engineering/ Safety, Environmental or Risk Management or equivalent technical degrees.
  • 5 years experience in SHE Operations
  • Proven track record of analytical thinking and project management
  • Experience in regulatory environment (ie OSHA act ), International SHE management & Process Safety

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge using all SHE IT tools and how those tools integrate into other functional work processes
  • Experience with work processes across all Unilever functions to integrate SHE standards and tools effectively.

  • Provide and deploy in the global/cluster SHE strategy, policy and standards and guidelines in the site to achieve excellent sustainable results
  • Manage the SHE teams in the region responsible to deliver Occupational Health, Safety and Environment results
  • Lead the Go to Market SHE Agenda within the market in accordance with Unilever Safety Standards and Requirements- Logistics Safety
  • Drive safety and environment risk assessment and develop/implement appropriate controls
  • Reduce the site’s environmental impact in the areas of COD, hazardous & non-hazardous waste, SOx & CO2 emissions and water & energy consumption
  • Oversee compliance to the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) requirements for the country
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the Unilever BBS Program and support deployment in the site
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the Unilever PSM Program (if applicable to the site PS risks) and support deployment in the site and support the application of Unilever guidelines and procedures for Process Safety assessment (SIMAS)
  • Influence senior management and drive safety and environmental leadership through line management
  • Monitor site legal compliance and ensure the site meets all local/national regulatory requirements and Unilever standards, provide advice on national SHE legislation requirements & implement relevant procedures and policies

  • Develop detailed maintenance plans and schedules for preventive and corrective maintenance activities in Unilever plants.

What You Will Need To Succeed
Experiences & Qualifications:

  • B.Sc /HND Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical OR Electrical Engineering
  • Previous processing & packing manufacturing experience is highly appreciated.
  • Experience with database, spreadsheet software and CMMS software
  • Expertise in working with engineering and computer-assisted design software.
