Job Title: Legal Counsel

Location: Lagos

Job Summary:

  • This role offers an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Legal Counsel with approximately 4 years of relevant experience to support the SVP, Legal, Compliance and Company Secretary in managing Arnergy’s legal, compliance, and company secretarial responsibilities.
  • As part of the legal team, you will play an essential role in supporting the company’s mission to scale reliable and affordable renewable energy solutions across
  • Nigeria and emerging markets.

Key Responsibilities:

Legal Support:

  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various commercial contracts and agreements.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare reports on relevant regulatory trends, policies, and industry- specific matters.
  • Provide preliminary legal analyses and advice on operational matters, regulatory compliance, and potential litigation risks.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal departments, external counsels, and regulatory agencies as required.
  • Support the review and implementation of legal policies, guidelines, and compliance measures.

Company Secretariat Assistance:

  • Support the SVP, Legal, Compliance and Company Secretary in organising board meetings, including
  • preparation of board packs, agendas, and minutes.
  • Maintain corporate records, resolutions, statutory registers, and regulatory filings.
  • Assist with timely submission of statutory returns and regulatory filings.
  • Provide administrative and procedural support on corporate governance matters.

Compliance Assistance:

  • Assist in implementing and monitoring the company’s compliance programs.
  • Conduct preliminary compliance reviews and audits, documenting findings, and recommending improvements.
  • Support compliance training initiatives and help maintain updated compliance documentation.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and contribute to updates of internal compliance frameworks and policies.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B); admission to the Nigerian Bar.
  • Minimum of 4 years relevant experience in legal advisory, compliance, or corporate governance
  • roles, preferably in energy, renewables, or similar industries.
  • Certification from the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) will be an added advantage.
  • Proficient legal research and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, legal databases, and compliance management tools.

Preferred Experience:

  • Familiarity with renewable energy regulations and compliance frameworks in Nigeria.
  • Basic understanding of employment law and corporate governance best practices.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Demonstrated discretion, integrity, and confidentiality.
