Job Title: Manager, Environmental Sustainability and Climate Finance
Location: Lagos

Supervises: ESG Supervisors, ESG Officers
Job Purpose
- Through effective management, oversee environmental sustainability and climate finance processes across Oando PLC and its subsidiaries, ensuring alignment with the Group ESG Strategy Framework, regulatory requirements, and sustainability objectives.
- Lead a team in developing and implementing environmental sustainability initiatives, managing climate finance strategies, and ensuring compliance with international environmental standards.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including regulators, financial institutions, and development partners, while addressing climate finance opportunities and environmental sustainability inquiries promptly.
- Provide strategic oversight to ensure the Board of Directors and Executive Management fulfill environmental and climate-related commitments across all operational jurisdictions.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the company’s environmental sustainability strategy, focusing on climate change mitigation, carbon reduction, and adaptation efforts in alignment with international environmental standards and regulations, including the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Develop and implement corporate sustainability policies in alignment with industry best practices, international standards (e.g., TCFD, GRI, ISSB, EU CSRD), and regulatory requirements.
- Foster a culture of Sustainability/ESG compliance across the Group by developing, implementing, and delivering comprehensive policies, procedures, and training for management, employees, and other stakeholders with a view to Implementing energy efficiency and carbon reduction projects across operations.
- Lead the assessment and management of environmental risks, including biodiversity impact, emissions reduction, and water resource management as well as other physical, transitional, and reputational risks associated with environmental sustainability and climate change.
- Work closely with HSE, Geology, Engineering, and Operations teams to integrate sustainability into core business processes.
- Monitor compliance with environmental regulations and advise on corrective actions.
- Conduct climate risk and vulnerability assessments to identify potential environmental and financial risks related to climate change.
- Develop and implement greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction strategies, including Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions tracking.
- Oversee baseline emissions assessments and establish reduction targets in line with Net Zero commitments.
- Integrate climate finance principles into the company’s environmental strategies and business opportunity realization process/plan to attract investments and secure funding for sustainability and climate-related projects.
- Identify and secure climate finance opportunities, including green bonds, sustainability-linked loans, and carbon credit trading.
- Develop carbon offset strategies and manage participation in voluntary and compliance carbon markets.
- Provide advisory support on carbon pricing, ESG-linked investment opportunities, and emerging climate finance trends.
- Design, develop, and implement ESG reporting templates and dashboards to monitor and track key performance indicators (KPIs) in alignment with the company’s environmental sustainability strategy.
- Monitor, track, and report on the set Environmental and Climate related KPIs in alignment with the Board-approved ESG Strategy. Collaborate with the ESG Goalholders to address environmental related gaps by formulating and implementing plans that align with business realities.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of environmental-related financial documentation to ensure compliance with national and international regulatory requirements, providing transparent, accurate, and timely environmental and climate-related performance data for internal and external stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, financial institutions, and the general public, to advance the company’s sustainability and climate finance goals, ensuring compliance with all ESG-related obligations.
- Liaise with internal and external auditors to ensure the accuracy and completeness of ESG reporting and manage the resolution of control issues related to Environmental and climate data identified during audits in a timely manner.
- Develop, implement, and advise on the interpretation and application of relevant Climate financing, Environmental laws, regulations, and policies to ensure compliance with legal and statutory requirements across the entire group.
- Manage project budgets and resource allocation within ESG operations, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of ESG professionals, fostering a collaborative environment to achieve strategic goals and organizational values.
- Support performance management and succession planning by identifying team strengths and areas for improvement, creating opportunities for growth and engagement.
- Carry out all such other tasks as may be assigned by the Divisional Manager, Sustainability/ESG or the CSO/GM, GRC.

- Measurable reduction in Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions aligned with corporate Net Zero targets.

- Percentage of workforce trained on ESG and climate-related topics.

Person Specifications
- A good First Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Climate Finance, Engineering, Economics, or a related field. Master’s degree advantageous.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in environmental sustainability, climate risk management, or carbon finance, preferably in the energy sector.
- Strong knowledge of climate-related financial risks, carbon accounting methodologies, and ESG disclosure frameworks.
- Experience in securing green finance, managing carbon credits, and implementing decarbonization strategies.
- Proven track record of engaging with regulatory agencies and financial institutions on sustainability-related matters.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.
- Professional certification in Sustainability or ESG, such as GRI Standards Certification or GARP’s Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR) Certification, CPD Reporting Certification will be an added advantageous.
- Ability to effectively manage and deliver complex, multi-stakeholder projects under high-pressure situations, including compliance reporting and stakeholder engagement.
- Good team player with excellent communication skills.
Required Competencies:
- Strong technical knowledge of ESG principles, regulations, climate science, carbon markets and related regulations in Nigeria and globally.
- Experience of Local & International Statutory and Regulatory bodies governing Companies generally and those operating within the Oil & Gas Industry.
