Nigeria LNG Limited is the proud sponsor of three of the biggest and most prestigious prizes in Africa for science, literature, and literary criticism: The Nigeria Prize for Science and The Nigeria Prize for Literature, each worth USD100,000 in award money, and The Nigeria Prize for Literary Criticism with a N1 million cash reward.

1). Nigeria LNG (NLNG) Limited Prize for Literary Criticism 2025

Location: Nigeria

Description

  • Entries are hereby invited for The Nigeria Prize for Literary Criticism. The yearly prize is sponsored by NLNG to honour the author of the best critical work.
  • To encourage literary criticism, the Advisory Board of the Nigeria Prize for Literature will reward the author of the best critical work with the sum of USD 10,000.00.

Submission Procedure

  • All applicants must submit their entries accompanied by an application form obtainable online
  • Completed forms must be printed and submitted along with the entries.
  • All applicants must submit three (3) literary criticism works on Prose Fiction for the prize.
  • No work published before 2021 will be accepted.
  • The prize will be awarded for no other reason than excellence.

Announcement and Public Presentation of Winner

  • The winner(s), if any, will be announced and presented in October 2025.

2). Nigeria LNG (NLNG) Limited Prize for Literature 2025 (Focus: Prose Fiction)

Location: Nigeria

Description

  • Entries are hereby invited for The Nigeria Prize for Literature. The yearly literature prize is sponsored by NLNG to honour the author of the best book by a Nigerian.
  • The prize rotates among four literary genres – Prose Fiction, Poetry, Drama and Children’s Literature. This year, the competition is for Prose Fiction.
  • The winner(s) would receive an award of USD 100,000.00

Panel of Judges

  • A Panel of Judges has been appointed for The Nigeria Prize for Literature by the Advisory Board for Literature.
  • The appointment of judges has been done to reflect the genre in competition for the year.
  • Persons appointed as judges have wide experience, peer recognition, good public image and command respect nationally and internationally.

Submission Procedure

  • All applicants must submit their entries accompanied by an application form obtainable online
  • Completed forms must be printed and submitted along with the entries.
  • Twelve (12) copies of entry and an e-copy of each entry, with evidence of Nigerian citizenship (photocopy of Nigerian passport or National Identity Card), may be submitted either by author or publisher. Books should be submitted to NLNG’s External Relations Division, promoters of the prize, by the stipulated deadline.
  • No book published before 2022 will be accepted.
  • An author will enter only one published work. Unpublished work will not be considered. No book previously submitted for this competition may be re-submitted at a later date, even if major revisions have been made or a new edition published. The prize will be awarded for no other reason than excellence.
  • No member of the Advisory Board, Panel of Judges and members of their families can enter their work(s) for the award in the period in which they are serving and five (5) years thereafter. No entries will be accepted from staff of NLNG and their families.
  • No entry submitted after the stipulated deadline will be accepted.
  • Failure to meet all stated conditions above will lead to disqualification of the entry.

3). Innovations and Technologies for Reducing the Effect of Climate Change

Location: Nigeria

Description

  • Entries are invited from Scientists and Innovators worldwide for advancing scientific solutions to a prescribed problem as captured by the theme for the year, Innovations and Technologies for Reducing the Effects of Climate Change.
  • The Nigeria Prize for Science celebrates excellence in scientific breakthroughs and honours scientists from anywhere in the world who help find solutions, which can be applied in Nigeria, to a problem as defined and advertised by the Advisory Board for the prize.
  • This annual prize for science was instituted in 2004 by Nigeria LNG to recognise outstanding scientific achievements by scientists and innovators in line with its vision of helping to build a better Nigeria.
  • Themes for which the Prize has been recently awarded include Innovations in Malaria Control (2017); Innovations in Energy for Stable Power Supply (2018); Climate Change: Erosion, Drought and Desertification (2019); Innovations in Sustainable Food Security (2022) and Innovation For Enhancement of Healthcare Therapy (2023).
  • The winner(s) would receive an award of USD 100,000.00

Scope

  • Cure or protocols for effective management of specific/particular health challenges.
  • Technologies/Protocols for effective management of healthcare therapy.
  • Processes for managing major outbreaks/pandemics.

Eligibility

  • The award is open to scientists and innovators worldwide (Nigerians and non-Nigerians) involved in the application of science to proffer innovations for enhancement of healthcare therapy.
  • Members of the Advisory Board or Panel of Judges or their relatives are not allowed to enter their works for the Science Prize during their year of service as well as the following year.
  • Nigeria LNG Limited staff or their family members are ineligible to enter the prize during their years of service and five (5) years post-service.
  • The work should be of outstanding merit and should have advanced the frontiers of knowledge and/or provide an innovative technology for reducing the effects of climate change.
  • The entry should be a completed scientific work, substantiated by either a proof of concept or tangible societal impact.
  • Only one entry can be submitted by an individual or group.
  • All materials in support of the entry must be submitted within the time stipulated.
