Job Description

  • We are seeking an experienced and driven Oil and Gas Trader to oversee the buying and selling of oil and gas commodities across the West African region.
  • The ideal candidate will be responsible for analyzing market trends, negotiating transactions, and managing trading risks effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze market trends and forecasts to identify profitable trading opportunities.
  • Negotiate and execute trade agreements with suppliers, buyers, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Assess and manage trading risks while ensuring full compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including suppliers, buyers, and industry experts.
  • Stay informed on industry developments, market trends, and regulatory changes.
  • Oversee all commercial and shipping operations.
  • Handle the submission of cargo documentation in accordance with PPPRA and DPR regulations.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with traders, affiliates, chartering, finance, demurrage, accounts, legal departments, and senior management.
  • Manage storage positions, truck sales, and monthly stock reconciliation, particularly in West Africa.
  • Organize and maintain accurate contractual and shipping records.
  • Review and approve logistics/shipping invoices from storage companies, agents, inspectors, and other counterparties.
  • Monitor trade P&L, disbursement accounts, inspection processes, claims, and re-invoicing activities.
  • Maximize revenue, ensure secured payments, and document all claims efficiently.
  • Carefully review contractual terms and develop template agreements to prevent disputes or potential litigation in trading transactions.

Qualifications

  • Holds a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering, Social Sciences, or Management Sciences.
  • Thrives in fast-paced and dynamic work environments.
  • At least 7 years of experience in oil trading, energy, logistics, or shipping, demonstrating a strong curiosity and passion for the energy trading sector.
  • Extensive knowledge of the downstream sector in Nigeria and the Anglophone West African region.
  • Well-established network and strong relationships within the industry.
  • Confident, commercially astute, and highly business-minded.
  • Proven experience in oil trading within Nigeria and the Anglophone West African region.
  • Exceptional organizational and problem-solving abilities, with solid negotiation skills and a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to grasp the bigger picture.
  • Strong sense of accountability and ownership of responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with leadership qualities that inspire and influence.
  • Sharp analytical abilities and proficiency in IT tools.
