Responsibilities

  • As a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership, overseeing the design and development of complex engineering projects, and driving innovation within our organization.
  • You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to the overall technical strategy and architecture.
  • The ideal candidate should have a strong background in engineering, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a passion for staying up-to-date with the latest technological advancements.
  • You will work directly under the Co-Managing Partner/ Head of Investments.
  • You will act as both a technology and business expert, making decisions that will impact the current and future operations of the company and being up to date on new technologies and software development practices.

Below is your concise job description as a Principal Engineer:

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the engineering team, ensuring compliance with best practices, industry standards, and project specifications.
  • Innovation and Strategy: Ensure the company’s technology strategy serves its business strategy not limited by identifying innovation opportunities and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Technical Expertise: Remain abreast of the most recent engineering and technological developments, actively researching and evaluating new tools, frameworks, and methodologies that can improve our development process.
  • Implement a company-wide framework for technology standards, practices, IT policies, and strategies that will empower the business and its people to deliver on their commitments.
  • Ensures the execution of an information security strategy that protects data and servers’ confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
  • Project Management: From inception to completion, oversee the design, development, and implementation of complex engineering projects, ensuring timely delivery, quality, and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as product managers, designers, and other engineering teams, to ensure effective communication and goal alignment.
  • Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing: Serve as a mentor and guide for novice engineers, fostering a culture of learning and information exchange within the team.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure the highest quality and dependability standards in engineering deliverables via code reviews, testing methodologies, and process enhancements.
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders: Collaborate with stakeholders, such as executives, partners, and clients, to comprehend their requirements, offer technical insights, and guarantee successful project outcomes.

Problem Solving:

  • Identify and analyze complex technical problems, propose innovative solutions, and direct the team in the implementation of effective resolutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, a relevant Engineering field, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a technical leader, with at least 8 years in a software development role and as a supervisor
  • Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software design principles
  • Expertise in multiple programming languages and platforms, and experience in different integration methods and protocols such as XML, SOAP, Rest, JSON etc.
  • Experience with technology relative to industry; Node.JS, Python, PHP, Java/C, SQL Server, Angular, AI, USSD, AWS (Preferrable)
  • Experience deploying on various cloud servers including but not limited to AWS.
