Project Summary

  • EngenderHealth’s Phase 3 Hormonal IUD (HIUD) Scale‑Up Project, funded by the Catalytic Opportunity Fund (COF), expands access to hormonal IUDs in Ebonyi and Kogi States by training 300 healthcare workers at secondary and high‑volume primary facilities.
  • Aligned with Nigeria’s National HIUD Scale‑Up Plan (2021–2024), the project leverages peer‑learning to integrate HIUD services into existing copper IUD programs.
  • This builds upon successful Phase 1 (Sokoto, Bauchi) and Phase 2 (Kebbi, Plateau) implementations
  • The project is implemented in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, state health ministries, primary healthcare agencies, and hospital boards.
  • It also includes advocacy efforts for dedicated family planning budget lines to support continued HIUD procurement.
  • By expanding access to highly effective HIUDs, the initiative advances gender equality and sexual and reproductive health rights in Nigeria.

Job Summary

  • Reporting to the Project Coordinator, the project support intern will assist the program team in supporting the project management and technical work, which includes the development of work plans, stakeholder engagement, proposal development, documentation, monitoring, research, and other project implementation activities.
  • The role is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to gain valuable experience in project management functions of a nonprofit organization.
  • By supporting the project team, the intern will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of EngenderHealth Nigeria’s operations, contributing to the organization’s mission in Nigeria.
  • The Internship will provide a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the day-to-day program management at EngenderHealth.

Essential Functions
Under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, the intern is expected to perform the following tasks:

  • Support project coordination and monitor implementation.
  • Prepare draft activity and monthly project reports and contribute to the quarterly narrative reports.
  • Participate in project research processes.
  • Support and ensure a cordial working relationship with the relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide support to country office programmes.
  • Support development of work plans, budgets and reports.
  • Support to proposal development and business engagements.
  • Assume any other responsibility as assigned by the Country Representative/Project Coordinator.
  • Support to ensure that all finance policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Participate in budget preparation, forecasts and spending are in line with plans.
  • Ensure to use of procedures and relevant protocols that are necessary for carrying out the project activities.
  • Support the timely and appropriate use of all procurement and logistics infrastructure for the effective implementation of project activities.
  • Perform other related tasks as required and be responsible for reporting and communicating of progress and achievement of the specific assigned task.

Qualifications
Must possess the following requirements with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • University Degree or equivalent  in Social Science, Arts, Health-Related, international relations and any other relevant course.
  • Completion of National Youth Service and at least 1 year of working experience
  • A history of productive engagement  with local partners, including government, traditional leadership, and civil society.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, collaboration experience, creativity, and willingness to innovate.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience drafting project reports and monitoring project progress.
  • Good written and spoken English language skills.

Essential Soft Skills:

  • Proven capacity to direct, develop, manage, and inspire a multidisciplinary and professional team in the field office.
  • Intimate knowledge, understanding, and experience engaging the Ministry of Health, its structures and health systems in Nigeria.
  • Ability to prioritise amongst competing demands and work with minimal supervision, and organise in a strict deadline environment
  • Be prepared to travel in support of project activities
  • Fluency in English language and any of Hausa/Igbo/Yoruba and any other spoken Nigerian dialect is required.
  • Ability to travel approximately 30% of his/her time to supervise and support field activities.
