Job Description
- We are seeking a Senior Financial Sector Investment Officer to join our Financial Inclusion and Intermediation Division within the Financial Sector Development (FSD) Department. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in identifying, developing, and leading the due diligence and closure of financial intermediation projects. You will be a key member of multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with professionals in various areas such as law, environmental and social specialists, economists, and credit risk officers. Your expertise in the financial sector and related industries will be instrumental in driving the Bank’s operations, ensuring their innovation, development, and profitability.
Key Functions
Under the guidance of the Division Manager, your responsibilities will include:
- Developing a robust pipeline of high-quality financing opportunities from Financial Institutions (FIs) and Financial Intermediaries (FIs) through field missions, networking, and contacts.
- Building and nurturing strong relationships with various stakeholders, including clients, regulators, partners, and government officials to cultivate investment opportunities.
- Leading and coordinating due diligence processes for banking and other financial intermediation projects, applying diverse financial instruments.
- Conducting financial analysis, financial modeling, and risk assessments for projects.
- Utilizing the Bank’s appraisal tools, such as Environment Social and Governance (ESG) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML), to assess projects comprehensively.
- Preparing project appraisal reports for potential lending/investment projects, from inception to approval, disbursement, and implementation.
- Collaborating with other Investment and Inclusion Officers and Bank staff to identify investment opportunities and build a strong investment pipeline.
- Formulating innovative transactions, projects, and initiatives.
- Contributing to policy dialogues on financial sector issues in Regional Member Countries (RMCs) and facilitating financial sector development support programs.
- Evaluating, structuring, negotiating, and closing new transactions, with a focus on credit and asset quality.
- Providing support to regional industry and portfolio teams in processing and supervising regionally managed projects.
Competencies (Skills, Experience, and Knowledge)
To excel in this role, you should have:
- A Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Financial Economics, or a related quantitative discipline.
- At least five (5) years of relevant professional experience in the private and finance sector, including credit risk analysis, debt product structuring, legal documentation, negotiations, and transaction closure in banking and non-banking financial institutions.
- Experience in structuring financial system development projects or related fields.
- Familiarity with Development Financial Institutions (DFIs) and/or Multinational Development Banks (MDBs) regarding financial intermediation lending projects with a focus on SMEs.
- Experience in emerging market economies, especially in Africa.
- Knowledge of developing economies and a deep understanding of banking, financial institutions, financial and capital markets, and related industries.
- Strong due diligence skills, including financial analysis of financial institutions, such as banks and non-bank financial institutions. Familiarity with due diligence of private equity funds is advantageous.
- Financial and credit proficiency, with the ability to evaluate, structure, negotiate, and close transactions using various financial instruments (debt, sub-debt, equity, and grants).
- Ability to understand the unique needs of clients in the financial and real sectors and develop tailored solutions.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, innovative thinking, and strong decision-making skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and oral, in English and/or French, with proficiency in the other language.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Strong organizational, administrative, and time management skills.
- Willingness to travel extensively and adapt to different geographic locations.
- Presentation skills and the ability to work efficiently under pressure, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision.
