Job Summary

  • A Nursing Intern is responsible for assisting in the delivery of patient care under the supervision of registered nurses and other healthcare professionals.
  • This role is designed to provide practical experience and training to complement academic studies in nursing.

Key Responsibilities
Patient Care:

  • Assist in providing comprehensive nursing care to patients.
  • Monitor and record patients’ vital signs and report any significant changes to the supervising nurse.
  • Help with daily activities such as bathing, feeding, and mobilizing patients.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and under the supervision of a registered nurse.

Clinical Duties:

  • Prepare and maintain patient records accurately and promptly.
  • Assist in medical procedures and examinations.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment in patient rooms and nursing stations.
  • Follow infection control protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of patients and staff.

Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing necessary education and support.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure the delivery of high-quality care.
  • Report any patient concerns or changes in condition to the supervising nurse promptly.

Professional Development:

  • Participate in educational opportunities and training sessions provided by the healthcare facility.
  • Stay updated on current nursing practices and procedures.
  • Engage in reflective practice to continuously improve clinical skills and patient care.

Qualifications
Education:

  • Recently graduated from a Bachelor’s of Nursing Science (BNSC) program.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Basic knowledge of nursing principles, procedures, and techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Compassionate, patient-focused, and detail-oriented.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and record-keeping.

Licensure / Certification:

  • Must have provisional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
