Job Title: Accountant

Location: Lagos

Responsibilities

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and forecasts to support decision-making and ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost optimization or revenue growth.

Budgeting and Cost Control:

  • Assist in the preparation and management of annual budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and financial targets.
  • Monitor and control operational and project costs, ensuring adherence to budget constraints and identifying cost-saving initiatives.

Compliance and Regulatory Adherence:

  • Ensure all financial activities comply with local regulations, corporate policies, and industry standards.
  • Coordinate with external auditors for timely and accurate audits, addressing any discrepancies or issues identified.

Accounts Management:

  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and receipts.
  • Reconcile accounts and resolve any discrepancies, ensuring financial data integrity.

Cash Flow Management:

  • Monitor cash flow and manage liquidity, ensuring that the company maintains sufficient funds for day-to-day operations.
  • Support the management of bank relationships and financing arrangements to optimize cash flow.

Financial Forecasting and Budget Reporting:

  • Assist in creating financial forecasts based on current and future business activities, ensuring the accuracy of projected revenues and expenditures.
  • Provide detailed reports to senior management on financial performance, highlighting key metrics and suggesting corrective actions when necessary.

Tax:

  • Calculate and oversee tax liabilities in relation to CIT, EDT, WHT, VAT, and PAYE.
  • Liaise with the relevant tax authorities and attend meetings when required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting, reporting, and budgeting principles.
  • Familiarity with Nigerian tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel is essential, including skills in data analysis, financial modeling, pivot tables, and complex formulas, alongside familiarity with financial software and systems such as ERP.
  • Proven experience in financial accounting, reporting, and cost management, preferably in a similar industry.
  • Experience with audits, budgeting, and cash flow management.
  • Previous experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (Sales, Operations, Procurement).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial data management.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration and reporting.
  • Proficient in financial reporting and software tools.
