We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Assistant Production Manager – Metering
Location: Ikorodu, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Department: Production
Reports To: Production Manager / Plant Manager / General Manager
Position Overview
- The Assistant Production Manager – Metering will support the Production Manager in overseeing and coordinating all aspects of production related to metering operations.
- The role involves managing daily production activities, ensuring the efficient use of resources, maintaining product quality standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives within the production team.
Key Responsibilities
Production Management:
- Assist in overseeing daily production activities in the metering department, ensuring that all processes run smoothly and efficiently.
- Ensure the production goals and KPIs are met, including quality, quantity, and timeliness of production.
- Monitor workflow and production schedules, adjusting as needed to meet deadlines and resolve any bottlenecks.
Quality Control:
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements for metering products.
- Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to perform quality checks and address any deviations.
- Continuously monitor product quality and implement corrective actions where necessary.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of production staff, ensuring proper training and efficient work practices.
- Assist in hiring, training, and mentoring production personnel, fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to the production team.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process optimization to improve production efficiency, reduce waste, and minimize downtime.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles and other best practices to drive continuous improvement.
- Lead or participate in root cause analysis for production issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Resource Management:
- Ensure adequate raw materials and resources are available to meet production requirements.
- Collaborate with procurement and inventory management teams to ensure the timely availability of materials for production.
- Track and manage production costs, suggesting ways to reduce waste and improve cost efficiency.
Health, Safety, and Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to all safety standards and practices within the production area.
- Promote a safe working environment and proactively address any health or safety concerns.
- Stay up to date with industry regulations and ensure compliance with all applicable standards.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Assist in preparing and analyzing production reports for management, highlighting key performance metrics, challenges, and improvement opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of production activities, including operational logs, production data, and quality reports.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with other departments (engineering, maintenance, logistics, etc.) to ensure seamless operations.
- Communicate production updates, challenges, and successes with the Production Manager and senior leadership.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing) are a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a production environment, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role.
- Experience in the metering, instrumentation, or manufacturing industry is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of production planning, scheduling, and process optimization techniques.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Knowledge of metering technologies, equipment, and industry standards.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and production management software (e.g., ERP systems).
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with ISO standards and safety regulations in manufacturing environments.
- Experience in lean manufacturing, Kaizen, or similar continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong analytical skills, with experience in data analysis and performance tracking.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including standing for extended periods, lifting moderate weights, and wearing protective equipment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and be on-call as needed for production emergencies.
