Job Title: Civil Engineer Technician

Location: Lagos

Job Duties

  • Independent and impartial assessment of progress of work
  • Assessment of performance and certification of work done by the contractors for civil and structural works.
  • Regular reporting of progress of work in the format approved by Employer.
  • Audit and identification of risk including mitigation related to refinery projects in particular and other projects generally
  • Undertake technical and feasibility studies and site investigations.
  • Measurement of piping, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, structural steel, and Civil work activities
  • Develop detailed designs
  • Assess the potential risks of specific projects, as well as undertake risk management in specialist roles
  • Manage, supervise and advise on civil engineering issues
  • Communicate and liaise effectively with colleagues and architects, Subcontractors, contracting civil engineers, Consultants, co-workers and clients
  • Think both creatively and logically to resolve design and development
  • Manage budgets and other project resources
  • Manage change and ensure that relevant parties are notified of changes in the project
  • Advice teams of other engineers, including from other organization or firms
  • Compile, check and approve reports
  • Undertake complex and repetitive calculations
  • Ensure that a project runs smoothly and that the structure is completed on time and within budget
  • Correct any project deficiencies that affect production, quality and safety requirements before final evaluation and project reviews
  • Any other project related activity as assigned by the employer.

Required Educational Background / Skills and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with at least 10 years cognate experience as Civil Engineer and at least three (3) years from a consulting firm.
  • Experience in Civil and Structural design
  • Knowledge of applicable national and international codes and standards
  • Knowledge of finite element analysis software
  • Working knowledge of AutoCad or other drafting software (PDMS or Teka Structure would be an advantage)
  • Structured way of working, high self-motivation, team spirit and assertiveness
  • Highly open minded, experienced in working in international teams
  • Highly developed communications and interpersonal skills.
