Job Title: CKAN Repository Assistant

Ref:  STS2024-015

Location: Ibadan, Oyo

Job type: Contract
Duration: 6 months renewable

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and assure smooth functioning and reliable “up time” of CKAN and its API.
  • Refine CKAN fields and features where necessary to maintain alignment with CGIAR’s Open and FAIR Data Assets Policy and agreed common metadata schema.
  • Receive datasets, and render them FAIR using the FAIRscribe or Carob workflows, cataloguing and checking metadata and adding and improving fields as needed in both CKAN and the datasets, in alignment with CGIAR schemas and policies.
  • Upload FAIRified datasets in a timely manner to CKAN with persistent identifiers, assessing the need to convert file formats if needed.
  • Ensure smooth functioning of workflows for upload and download of data and connection with critical databases/platforms, (e.g., CassavaBase, SharePoint, GARDIAN).
  • Develop and/or maintain links to other repositories, especially the python-based GeoNode, using APIs where possible, assume responsibility for server administration and up time.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements               

  • BSc/HND in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related field with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience performing similar role in a well-structured environment.
  • Experience in agricultural-related domain is an added advantage.

Compentencies:
The ideal candidate must have:

  • Have proven experience in setting up a corporate CKAN platform.
  • Be experienced working with CKAN or any other open access data/tabular repository.
  • Strong programming skills in Python (or PHP), and at least intermediate skills in R.
  • Working knowledge of BI or Tableau.
  • Good programming skills in html, CSS, JavaScript, web frameworks and general open source usage.
