Job Title: Contract Manager
Location: Abuja, Nigeria
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Duration: Two years (renewable)
Job Summary
- We are to hire a Contract Manager with extensive experience in contract negotiation, drafting, and execution within the power and energy sector.
- The selected candidate will play a critical role in managing contractual agreements related to power infrastructure development, ensuring alignment with financial, regulatory, and operational goals.
Scope of Work
Contract Negotiation & Drafting:
- Lead the negotiation of high-value contracts, including PPAs, EPC contracts, O&M agreements, and financing contracts.
- Draft, review, and modify contractual agreements to ensure clarity, enforceability, and alignment with company objectives.
- Work closely with legal, finance, procurement and Technical teams to structure contracts that comply with applicable laws, industry regulations, and financing requirements.
- Ensure all agreements reflect best industry practices and protect the organization from legal and financial risks.
Risk Assessment & Mitigation:
- Identify commercial, legal, financial, and operational risks associated with contracts and propose mitigation strategies.
- Conduct due diligence on counterparties, ensuring their financial and operational capacity to fulfill contract obligations.
- Monitor regulatory developments in the energy and power sector and ensure contracts comply with new legal requirements.
- Develop contingency plans for contract disputes, performance failures, and force majeure events.
Contract Implementation & Compliance:
- Ensure all contractual obligations are met by both the organization and its partners (financiers, EPC contractors, suppliers, etc.).
- Develop and implement a contract management system for efficient tracking of contract milestones, deliverables, and compliance requirements.
- Conduct regular contract performance reviews and enforce penalties or incentives based on compliance and performance metrics.
- Work closely with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and legal advisors to ensure compliance with industry policies, licensing requirements, and international standards.
Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management:
- Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including financiers, investors, government agencies, contractors, and energy regulators.
- Act as the primary liaison for contract-related discussions with external parties, ensuring transparency and effective communication.
- Support negotiations with multilateral financial institutions, development banks, and private investors to secure funding for power projects.
- Provide contract-related guidance and training to internal teams on negotiation strategies, compliance, and risk management.
Financial Oversight & Cost Management:
- Track contract payment schedules, cost escalations, and budget adherence for each major PPI contract.
- Monitor and mitigate financial risks, including cost overruns, FX volatility, and adjustment inflation.
- Work closely with finance teams to ensure timely disbursement tracking and financial contract compliance.
Policy Development & Process Optimization
- Develop and update contract management policies, templates, and procedures to streamline contract lifecycle management.
- Ensure that contract processes align with global best practices and the company’s strategic goals.
- Utilize contract management software and digital tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy in contract administration.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Business Administration, Finance, Energy Management, or a related field.
- 8-10 years of experience in contract negotiation, drafting, and management within the energy or power sector.
- Strong knowledge of power project financing, PPAs, EPC contracts, and regulatory frameworks in the energy industry.
- Expertise in contract law, dispute resolution, and risk assessment.
