1). Field Service Engineer – Gas Turbine (TFA Mechanical)

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers

Position Objective

  • This role serves as a company’s technical Field Advisor (TFA) and administrative representative, resident engineer, and handles customer service assignments. It involves on-site preventive and scheduled maintenance, call-out services, and new unit commissioning activities on gas turbine product lines and packages.

Mission

  • Under applicable direction and instructions, independently determine and develop solutions to customer requirements and problems

Environmental, Health, and Safety:

  • Understand and comply with company and customer safety policies and procedures. Ensure adherence to the work permit system. Maintain safe practices and sites. Participate in general safety and toolbox safety meetings. Suggest safety improvements.

Quality:

  • Ensure customer expectations are met or exceeded. Conduct all maintenance activities in accordance with company policy, manufacturer’s recommendations, and good practices.

Analyzing:

  • Possess basic knowledge of maintenance methods and experience with products and equipment associated with primary packages.

Project Monitoring:

  • Recognize abnormal sounds, vibrations, and potential safety issues early and take action to prevent serious hazards that could lead to equipment damage or production loss. Provide timely and daily reports to relevant managers on ongoing projects or daily work. Stay updated on pending work and personnel required to complete projects. Ensure necessary parts are available and submit materials requisitions when needed.

Reporting:

  • Provide accurate feedback and communication in pre-planned report formats. Maintain and update equipment histories to forecast equipment utilization and efficiency effectively. Coordinate necessary changes to ensure efficient operations with minimal downtime. Communicate and report effectively to immediate supervision and, if applicable, to customer representatives.

Problems:

  • Utilize sound judgment when analyzing problems. Resolve issues with minimal supervision promptly and cost-effectively. Master all procedures and options for identifying information sources and technical advice. Possess sufficient product knowledge to repair, remove, and install gas turbine engines, including components/systems, and interpret applicable drawings and technical manuals.

Scheduling:

  • Provide short- to medium-term scheduling of personnel and materials required for routine maintenance and plant commissioning.

Timing:

  • Engage operations strategically in releasing equipment timely for maintenance. Assist technically with operations and maintenance crew if workload exceeds available personnel.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Monitor maintenance services or installation support to ensure compliance with company policy, manufacturer recommendations, and safety standards.
  • Ensure major interventions are planned and executed on schedule and within commercial orders.

Qualifications

  • Verifiable over 5 years of working experience with gas turbines and rotating equipment in a related industry.
  • Computer literacy with MS Windows Suite, software applications, and basic electronic hardware handling.
  • Experience with recognized gas turbine product lines and/or extensive continuous occupation as a gas turbine engineer.
  • Technical qualification in University Engineering Degrees, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, or extensive years of experience with equivalent certificates.
  • Experience in an onshore/offshore environment is essential.
  • Deep knowledge of rotating equipment packages is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Gas Turbine engine theory, package systems theory, and operational knowledge will be advantageous.

2). Technical Support Manager – Field Services

Job Description

  • Siemens Energy is seeking a Technical Support Manager – Field Service to join our team.
  • This role involves supporting high-profile customers across Nigeria, West Africa, and Africa.
  • The successful candidate will provide first-level engineering and technical support for control systems, package, and mechanical-related issues to both internal and external customers.
  • This includes developing work-packs/procedures for all outages and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support expertise for control systems, package, and mechanical issues.
  • Develop work-packs and procedures for outages and projects.
  • Analyze problems and provide professional guidance in resolving issues.
  • Occasionally travel to provide onsite technical support.
  • Ensure compliance with company and customer EHS policies.
  • Provide 1st line support to field service engineers during shutdowns and projects.
  • Manage the creation and preparation of work-packs for field service engineers.
  • Provide 24-hour support functionality via an out-of-hours support hotline.
  • Implement processes for report approvals and design changes.
  • Maintain technical libraries, share-drives, and knowledge databases.
  • Interact with the service engineering department to optimize procedures.

Project Role:

  • Deliver major specialist tasks on time and within budget.
  • Support major projects and control assigned specialist tasks and manpower.
  • Coordinate complex troubleshooting activities.
  • Contribute to the development of methods and technical policies.
  • Generate new business opportunities.

Customer Liaison & Communication:

  • Communicate technical issues with clarity and precision.
  • Liaise with internal customers (PCC, Market Support, Management, Engineering) and external customers (end users, suppliers, regional entities).

Complexity of Work:

  • Perform complex technical tasks in rotating equipment.
  • Understand and coordinate a range of technical activities.
  • Contribute original thought and new insights into difficult issues.

Responsibility:

  • Provide technical knowledge and information within the field.
  • Contribute to field engineers’ training, technical audits, work planning, strategic development, and Health & Safety.
  • Generate technical procedures and reports for customers.

Requirements

  • University degree in Electrical, Electronics, Electro-Mechanical, or Mechanical Engineering (2:2 minimum) or equivalent.
  • Working towards or has COREN status.
  • Over 10 years of experience in rotating equipment and engine systems or equivalent field experience.
  • A master’s degree in engineering is an added advantage.

Technical Knowledge & Experience:

  • Controls System and Mechanical Engineer with over 10 years of experience.
  • Proven technical expertise in rotating equipment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools, including MS Projects.
  • High awareness of commercial and market considerations.
  • Graduate-level competency across a range of engineering subjects.
  • Experience in decision-making and technical judgment.
  • Ability to develop new approaches and strategic acumen.

Skills:

  • Understand control systems, engine, and compressor mechanical systems.
  • Diagnose related problems and interface with product lead centers.
  • Provide support to customers’ field staff and PCC through the Service Help Desk.
  • Communicate effectively and work clearly under pressure.
