1). WASH Officer (Roving)
Location: Borno
JOB PURPOSE
- The position holder is responsible for production of Bill of Quantities (BoQs), of WASH infrastructures Designs, supervision of all construction and rehabilitation activities in INTERSOS – including water supply systems, sanitation facilities and other related infrastructures.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under the general guidance from the WASH Supervisor, the officer will undertake the following duties.
- Ensure the development of accurate Bill of Quantities (BoQs) and detailed technical drawings for all the WASH interventions in liaison with relevant technical staff from the government authorities and implementing partners.
- Supervise and be responsible for all the technical aspect for project implementation, make sure that contractors complete project work in a timely, efficient and accurate manner with respect to standard engineering.
- Ensure community involvement at all phases of the project and the development of community ownership of the project.
- Guarantee the respect of construction standards as well as the security practices at the project site.
- Provide feedback to the monitoring and evaluation system in order to assess the effectiveness and the impact of the projects and propose recommendations for improvement.
- Contribute to the development of constructive solutions to challenges identified by the community and contractors.
- Facilitate and maintain a good professional relationship between INTERSOS, communities and contractors.
- Provide regular written and verbal reports to the WASH supervisor on the infrastructure’s development activities.
- With the help of the WASH supervisor and the contractor, develop and maintain weekly, monthly plans and written comprehensive records of engineering/WASH work undertaken in the project including site visits and reporting of work progress.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- A Minimum of HND/Degree in Water Engineering, Civil engineering, or other related discipline.
- At least 3 years of experience in similar position/related
- Professional experience in community WASH programs in displaced populations
- Excellent program implementation skills
- Good communication skills.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Ability to use and analysis civil and water resources applications (EPANET, AutoCAD etc)
- Organisational and communication skills, teamwork, meticulous attention to detail and numeracy.
- Work within the framework of INTERSOS Nigeria’s core values.
- Act as an ambassador for INTERSOS Nigeria, through professionalism and conduct.
- Undertake and apply learning from appropriate training and development programmes.
- Essential computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, internet, etc…).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Willing to work extra hours and available at the weekend for emergency cases.
- Capacity to work under pressure and willingness to work and live in a complex context.
- Fluency in English, Kanuri, and Hausa.

3). OHP Officer Roving
Location: Borno
JOB PURPOSE
- Under the guidance of the WASH Supervisor, the role ensures the effective implementation of WASH activities within IDPs and host communities through good gender balance, community participation, and ownership.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports in conducting needs assessment and gathering information and reporting to the WASH supervisor.
- Mobilizes, trains and follows up on communities/WASH committees formed and/or trained by INTERSOS in all activities concerning WASH, ensuring good community participation, gender balance, and ownership by the community.
- Facilitates the implementation of WASH activities within IDP and Host Communities, ensuring good community participation, gender balance, and ownership of programs by the community.
- Under the direction of the WASH Supervisor, plans field activities in communities that reduce WASH-related health risks by training and supervising Community Mobilizers
- Conducts public Hygiene Promotion sessions in each neighborhood or village.
- Conducts periodic focus group discussions, and awareness campaign, plan child-to-child hygiene sessions and organize events with children to raise hygiene and health awareness.
- Carries out mobilization of key community stakeholders including the protection committee, youths, women, men, and host communities to participate in community awareness events/meetings.
- Ensures constant communication with INTERSOS WASH staff to identify potential problems, formulate recommendations and solutions, and report.
- Conducts regular monitoring visits to the field, to follow up on INTERSOS activities and ensure community participation.
- Ensures that consideration is given with a focus on gender, protection, and HIV/AIDS in water and sanitation activities.
- Provide detailed, accurate and timely weekly reports to the supervisor on activities, challenges and areas in need of improvement.
- A minimum of Diploma in Environmental Health Studies, Social Sciences or other relevant fields
- Relevant experience and training in Hygiene Promotion
- A minimum of three years experience in WASH, preferably with a humanitarian organization.
- Strong humanitarian commitment.
- Quality: dynamic, autonomous, Proactive, flexible, take initiative.
- Availability to work in targeted LGAs, Borno State.
