1). Strategy Analyst

Location: Abuja

Reports to: Risk Advisor

Job Summary

  • The primary function of the Strategy Analyst is to support OTD’s strategic roadmap by analyzing data, market trends and internal performance to develop actionable strategies that drive business growth, optimize operations and achieve organizational objectives.
  • The ideal candidate will support strategic decision-making by providing market insights, data-driven recommendations and in-depth analysis of industry trends.
  • This role requires a combination of strong analytical skills, commercial acumen and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
Marketing Analysis and Insights:

  • Conduct detailed analyses of global oil and gas markets, including supply/demand trends, geopolitical developments, and price movements.
  • Monitor competitor activities and industry innovations to identify opportunities and threats.
  • Regularly engage Traders on emerging trends in the industry, geopolitical impacts on demand/supply curve and arbitrages.
  • Regularly engage Chartering on vessel movements, availability, shortages, macro and microeconomic factors affecting the vessel market.
  • Develop country and business entry plans in collaboration with Business development including market segmentation, Blue Ocean initiatives, resource requirements etc.

Strategic Planning:

  • Support the development of corporate and trading strategies to drive business growth and optimize profitability.
  • Review and update the OTD’s strategic roadmap as a live document.
  • Assist in evaluating and prioritizing trading opportunities in line with the company’s strategic objectives.
  • Create financial models and scenario analyses to assess the impact of strategic decisions.

Business Intelligence:

  • Analyze trading performance and recommend actionable insights to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Provide periodic market reports and updates to senior leadership, highlighting key trends and potential risks.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with traders, risk management, finance, and operations teams to align strategic goals.
  • Prepare presentations and reports for executive and board-level discussions.

Project Support:

  • Participate in strategic initiatives, including M&A evaluations, joint ventures, and new market entry projects.
  • Support the Project Execution and Delivery Office on project planning and tracking.
  • Support the implementation of strategic projects and track progress against defined KPIs.

Qualification and Experience

  • 1st Degree in Business, Finance, Economics or any of the Analytical/Applied Sciences
  • 2-5 years’ experience in strategy, consulting, financial analysis, or a related role, preferably within the oil and gas or energy trading sector.
  • Beginner level of understanding of oil and gas markets is required, familiarity with the oil and gas value chain – upstream, midstream and downstream, is a plus.
  • Familiarity with trading platforms, market analysis tools, and databases (e.g., Bloomberg, Platts, or Thomson Reuters).

Knowledge and Skills Required:

2). Risk Advisor

Location: Abuja
Job Schedule: Full-time
Reports to: GM Risk & Strategy

Job Summary

  • The primary function of the Risk Advisor is to assist the GM, Risk & Strategy in reviewing, monitoring and assessment of the company’s trading activities in alignment with OTD’s vision and strategic roadmap.
  • Specifically, the incumbent works in a fast-paced environment to: monitor trade activities from inception to conclusion, identify and mitigate risks in real time, maintain an effective internal control framework for the organization, ensure the accuracy and completeness of data in the trading software, assist with periodic review of processes and procedures for all job functions, organize, conduct internal process and control audits, key risk indicator reporting and as well as other assigned tasks from superiors.

Key Responsibilities
Risk Identification and Assessment:

  • Reviews and update of the company’s risk management framework/policy and ensures it remains aligned with the company’s vision and strategic direction as well as existing regulatory frameworks.
  • Regularly tests the company’s internal control framework document for efficiency and areas of improvement.
  • Identifies, analyses, evaluates, prioritises monitors reviews and communicates the risks – market, credit, operational – both internal and external to the organisation.
  • Monitor and report on macro, micro-economic, geopolitical and fiscal risks to business continuity, advise on mitigation plans with input from departmental experts in Trades, Operations, Finance, Legal and Governance, develop and execute mitigation plans whilst concurrently optimizing policies, processes and procedures.

Price Risk Management/Deals Desk:

  • Evaluates exposures in product pricing, acquisition, storage, seasonal and regional arbitrages.
  • Carry out trade P & L reviews with traders and back office, position reporting and mark to market valuation of trades.
  • Tracks the trading positions of physical and paper trading desks, analysing the associated risk and daily profit or loss along with variation margin requirements.
  • Performs deal entry into commodity trade risk management software for both derivatives and at-risk physicals.

Monitoring and Adherence:

  • Serve as systems administrator for commodity trade risk management software, ensure entries are done in accordance with laid down procedures and carry out periodic audits.
  • Serve as over-sight for Risk personnel in other regions.
  • Advise traders and all back-office functions, acting as internal consultant, on transactions, deal structuring and exposures.
  • Evaluate and report daily on deviation from established internal control processes
  • Provide actionable recommendations that balance risk management with organizational objectives.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Serve as systems administrator for commodity trade risk management software, ensure entries are done in accordance with laid down procedures and carry out periodic audits.
  • Serve as over-sight for Risk personnel in other regions.
  • Advise traders and all back-office functions, acting as internal consultant, on transactions, deal structuring and exposures.

  • Manage conflicts related to risk decisions and facilitate resolutions with professionalism and tact.

Scope of Responsibility & Accountability:

  • Development of reports and analysis on trades
  • Updating trade trackers and monitoring schedules
  • Policy and procedure documentation for the OTD functions
  • Updates of market prices and integrity of commodity trading risk management
  • Management of physical and electronic filing systems
  • Monitoring market, operational and credit risk levels for the business in line with the Risk Management Policy.

Qualification and Experience

  • 1st Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or any of the Analytical/Applied Sciences
  • 5-7 years’ cognate work experience, in a structured business environment with an intermediate level of understanding of oil industry markets and three-year experience in the development and review of business processes, risks, internal controls and financial statements.
  • Risk certification (IRM, GARP, CMA, CERA, COSO ERM) completed or in view would be an added advantage.
  • Big 4 Audit firm experience required.
