1). Gender Diversity Inclusion/Cultural Liaison Specialist

Location: Jimeta, Adamawa

Job Description

  • Bincike International with funding from World Bank Multi-Crisis Recovery Project is seeking for The Gender Diversity Inclusion/Cultural Liaison Specialist will play a critical role in the stigma reduction project by promoting gender equity and cultural sensitivity within mental health initiatives.
  • This position focuses on integrating gender diversity and cultural considerations into program design and implementation, ensuring that all community members feel valued and included, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds.
  • Program Duration: 3 months
  • Reports To: Program Coordinator

Responsibilities
Assessment & Planning:

  • Conduct assessments to understand the specific needs of diverse gender identities and cultural groups within the community.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop inclusive programming that addresses stigma related to mental health issues among different demographic groups.

Program Implementation:

  • Implement activities aimed at reducing stigma related to gender identity, sexual orientation, and cultural backgrounds through workshops, support groups, and advocacy campaigns.
  • Facilitate safe spaces for dialogue where individuals can share experiences related to mental health challenges influenced by their gender or culture.

Capacity Building & Training:

  • Develop training programs for staff and volunteers focused on issues of gender diversity, inclusion practices, cultural competency in dealing with mental health matters.
  • Equip local leaders with tools to foster inclusive environments that promote acceptance of diverse identities in relation to psychological wellbeing.

Community Engagement & Awareness Raising:

  • Lead awareness initiatives that challenge stereotypes associated with various genders/sexual orientations while promoting understanding of how these intersect with mental health.
  • Create culturally relevant materials (posters, brochures) aimed at educating communities about the importance of inclusivity in addressing mental health stigma.

Monitoring & Evaluation:

  • Design indicators for measuring progress towards achieving greater inclusiveness throughout project activities; assess changes in attitudes toward different genders/cultures over time.
  • Collect feedback from participants regarding their experiences within MHPSS programs focusing on inclusion effectiveness as well as barriers faced concerning access or acceptance.

Collaboration with Stakeholders:

  • Build partnerships with local organizations, women’s rights groups, and traditional leaders/community influencers who can advocate effectively on behalf of marginalized individuals relating their experience around stigmatization due to identity differences.
  • Work closely alongside healthcare providers ensuring they receive guidance/training necessary when delivering services tailored appropriately according to individual needs/preferences without bias or discrimination encountered based upon identity characteristics

Reporting & Documentation:

  • Prepare comprehensive reports documenting insights gained from implementing interventions addressing both stigma reduction efforts alongside furthering inclusion strategies per demographic group involved across projects undertaken
  • Maintain detailed records regarding participant demographics involved along with responses received pertaining to overall effectiveness against intended objectives outlined initially

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in social sciences such as sociology/gender studies/public health; a focus on intersectionality is highly advantageous.
  • Minimum 3 years experience working directly related fields involving advocacy surrounding gender diversity/inclusion, especially among vulnerable populations impacted by crises/violence
  • In-depth knowledge about socio-cultural dynamics influencing perceptions around sexual orientation/gender identity within targeted communities; sensitivity toward language barriers is essential
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal/written), fluency in English required; proficiency in local languages/dialects strongly preferred
  • Strong organizational capabilities combined with adaptability navigating complex situations whereby sensitive topics such as societal norms differing could arise.

2). Legal Advisor

Job Description

  • Bincike International with funding from the World Bank’s multi-crisis recovery project is seeking for Legal Advisor who will play a crucial role in supporting a sensitization program aimed at reducing stigmatization among women, youth, and men impacted by the Boko Haram insurgency.
  • This position involves providing legal expertise, guidance, and support to ensure that the rights of affected individuals are upheld while fostering an inclusive environment that encourages understanding and empathy.

Key Responsibilities
Legal Framework Analysis:

  • Analyse national and international laws related to human rights, discrimination, and stigmatization.
  • Identify legal protections available for individuals affected by Boko Haram violence.

Advisory Support:

  • Provide expert legal advice to program staff on issues related to stigma reduction and community engagement.
  • Assist in developing policies that promote inclusivity and safeguard the rights of marginalized populations.

Capacity Building:

  • Conduct training sessions for community leaders, stakeholders, and program participants on legal rights related to discrimination and the importance of reducing stigma.
  • Empower community members with knowledge about their rights through workshops or informational sessions.

  • Strong understanding of Nigeria’s socio-political context concerning insurgency impacts; familiarity with Adamawa State’s dynamics is an asset.

  • This role focuses on providing psychological support, enhancing community resilience, and promoting awareness to combat stigma related to mental health issues.

Key Responsibilities
Assessment & Planning:

  • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments to identify the mental health challenges faced by individuals affected by Boko Haram.
  • Develop tailored MHPSS strategies that address specific community needs regarding trauma and stigmatization.

Program Implementation:

  • Implement psycho-social support programs including individual counseling, group therapy sessions, and community workshops focused on resilience building.

Qualifications & Skills Required

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work or a related field; clinical experience is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in the field of mental health or psycho-social support particularly focusing on vulnerable populations impacted by crises/violence.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed approaches addressing psychological distress among individuals exposed to conflict situations; familiarity with Nigeria’s socio-cultural landscape is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal/written), fluency in English required; proficiency in local languages is an advantage but not essential
