1). Extension Field Agent

Location: Benue

Employment Type: Full-time

Duties / Responsibilities

  • The Extension Field Agent is responsible for organizing, conducting, and monitoring all assessment activities on each farm and providing direct support to coach the farmers on implementing technical activities
  • To assist in collecting assessment data from demonstration and farmer’s farms in the area of operations.
  • Maintaining positive relationships with farmers to enhance ReelFruit’s positive reputation.
  • To conduct and supervise the dissemination of information, skills, and techniques to farmers based on the ReelFruit protocol.
  • To demonstrate the right usage and application of agro-inputs on farms.
  • To distribute and account for all inputs delivered to all farmers in your operational area
  • To improve the long-term performance of farmers’ farms by increasing their capacity to adopt and apply better practices through exposure to new knowledge, information, skills, inputs, and procedures.
  • To encourage farmers to adopt better practices through exposure to new knowledge, information, skills, inputs, and processes to improve the long-term performance of their farms.
  • To serve as “eyes and ears” of ReelFruit, raise red flags, and troubleshoot in situations that will require such attention to preempt the occurrence and recurrence.
  • To work with the project associate to ensure all necessary data have been collected appropriately
  • To prepare farm reports on activities progress

Educational Qualification

  • A bachelor’s degree or HND in Agricultural Extension and Crop Production or any related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Special skills or expertise in Mango cultivation with a proven crop yield history.

As the Extension Field Agent, you’ll need to show:

  • Strong communication, presentation and liaison and interpersonal skills
  • Tactfulness
  • Keen interest and knowledge of farming especially in the Mango value chain
  • Knowledge of, and experience in the application of good agricultural practices (GAP) relating to Mangoes of interest to ReelFruit
  • Ability to integrate and work within rural areas and farming communities
  • Ready to visit farmers within your operational area
  • An open, flexible and innovative working style
  • Ability to take initiative and work without constant supervision
  • Must be able to communicate fluently in English and the local language.
