1). Nutrition Officer

Location: Sokoto

Key responsibilities:

  • Participate with M&E team in supervision of data collection for nutrition assessments;
  • Update tracking tool to monitor programme screening based data on acute malnutrition; collect health facility based disease surveillance reports and update morbidity reporting tool for assigned health facilities/LGAs;
  • Liaise with nutrition assistants for accessing community support group database; health facility database on a regular basis and updating overall health facility based activities;
  • Conduct ongoing capacity assessment of health workers on CMAM services delivery, vaccination etc. and review the training needs and/or coaching needs;
  • Support the Nutrition Programme manager in facilitating and organizing technical trainings for health workers (including on LMIS, HMIS);
  • Ensure that all children and patients visiting ACF supported facilities are properly examined and treated according to national nutritional protocols and standards;
  • Identify gaps for WASH in health facilities and inform the Nutrition Programme manager on a regular basis;
  • Ensure availability of essential Nutrition supplies in assigned health facilities including data tools;
  • Facilitate quarterly review meetings/workshops with respective government focal person at State/LGA level;
  • Develop monthly monitoring and supervision plan for the LGA and share with the Nutrition Programme Manager;
  • Ensure that specific monitoring finding is reported to the Nutrition Programme manager with potential solutions;
  • During supervision visit, identify gaps of in supply sides and report to the Nutrition Programme manager for remedial action;
  • Ensure that referral of are made to the nearest higher-level centre and tracked for high-risk pregnancies, SAM with medical complications and other conditions requiring higher-level care;
  • Maintain and update database for health workers, community health workers/volunteers, trainings and share with line manager;
  • Prepare consolidated tracking tool for supportive supervision visits/on-job coaching sessions and share with line manager;
  • Update LGA work plans, individual work plans and share with line manager;
  • Use appropriate attendance sheet on-job coaching sessions, workshops/meetings and trainings and share a copy with line manager;
  • Use specific supervision checklist during supervision visits and archive filled supervision checklists with summary report – every month;
  • Fill the Nutrition Evolution reports every month for the LGA and share it with line manager for consolidation;
  • Collect consumption reports from health facilities, compile for LGA and share with line manager with needs for upcoming month;
  • Regularly report and coordinate with line manager regarding challenges, issues faced in the field for timely and appropriate decision-making.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, Food Science/Technology or other relevant;
  • Qualifications with experience in Public Health and CMAM programming;
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Nutrition programing;
  • An excellent report-writing skill is required including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Hausa;
  • Good Communication and Interpersonal skills;
  • Team management experience with similar programs;
  • Ability  to observe and to provide feedback on the activities;
  • Ability to manage staff according to local culture and organizational policies.

2). Stabilization Centre Officer

Location: Sokoto

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the referred SAM children from other health facilities or community health workers are re-diagnosed and documented appropriately;
  • Ensure that the admission criteria into a stabilization centre according to the national IMAM Protocol and WHO guidelines are followed;
  • Support the stabilization centre medical team on deciding properly about the malnutrition status of SAM children and referrals to other components of IMAM (SC/OTP/SFP) by ensuring strict compliance with the recommended discharge criteria;
  • Ensure appropriate diagnosis and monitoring of hypothermia, hypoglycaemia, dehydration, severe anaemia, take timely action to prevent and treat those complications using the protocol strictly in collaboration with SC doctors;
  • Carry out daily ward rounds in the morning and evening with SC Doctors, SC nurses and ensure patients are visited as appropriately. Ensure the notes on patient cards are properly filled after the ward rounds or any other patient examination or procedures;
  • Ensure that all the SC team  are familiar with and respect all the ACF Internal rules and regulations;
  • Ensure that adequate supplies are available in stabilization centres in collaboration with the SC manager and Nutrition and Health Sector Manager;
  • Ensure that daily record/tally on utilization of each medicine and therapeutic feeding product used in SC are available;
  • Prepare weekly / monthly utilization, requisition and stock report for therapeutic feeding products, medicines and medical equipment with validation from the SC manager;
  • Organize and conduct weekly medical meetings with the team to discuss mortality review and case study in collaboration with the Nutrition and Health program manager;
  • Inform the line managers in case of difficulties and challenges faced for timely remedial action;
  • Ensure optimal hygienic condition of the center through regular daily cleaning and monthly super cleaning of the whole center;
  • Compile and analyse the data and determine the performance of the centre, share the monthly Activity Progress Report in collaboration with the Nutrition and Health Programme Manager;
  • Regularly report and coordinate with Nutrition Programme Manager regarding challenges, issues faced at the centre for timely and appropriate decision-making;
  • In coordination with the Nutrition and Health Programme Manager, Logistics Department and Base Pharmacist, ensure appropriate supply plan on weekly/daily basis, for the stabilization centre. Communicate to ensure functioning and maintenance of SC ambulance and generator any issue identified in advance.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery with valid Medical license, experience in stabilization centre as SC doctor;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Midwifery, Public Health or other relevant qualifications with experience in Public Health and CMAM programming;
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in in- patient management of SAM cases with Medical Complications and CMAM programmes implementation;
  • Valid practicing license;
  • Excellent report-writing skills is required;
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, Hausa and/or Kanuri;
  • Good communication and Interpersonal skills;
  • Team management experience with similar programs;
  • Commitment to and understanding of ACTION AGAINST HUNGER’s aims, values and principles;
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point is required.
