Job Title: Junior Accountant

Location: Awka, Anambra

Employment Type: Full-time

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable & Receivable:

  • Process supplier invoices, staff expense claims, and subcontractor payments.
  • Monitor customer invoices, follow up on receivables, and maintain aging reports.

General Ledger Maintenance:

  • Assist in monthly closing activities and journal entries.
  • Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts.

Project Costing:

  • Track project expenditures and allocations.
  • Support preparation of project budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.

Payroll Support:

  • Assist in processing payroll and ensure compliance with tax laws and deductions.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation.

Tax and Compliance:

  • Prepare VAT, WHT, and other statutory filings.
  • Ensure adherence to local tax regulations and internal audit controls.

Reporting:

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
  • Generate weekly/monthly reports on cash flow, expenses, and budget performance.

Documentation & Filing:

  • Maintain orderly financial files and documents.
  • Support external audits by preparing requested information and documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years accounting experience; construction industry experience highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and project cost control.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, ERP systems).
  • Solid Excel and data analysis skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of construction accounting standards and cost tracking.
  • Familiarity with local tax laws and financial compliance requirements.
  • Certification or ongoing studies in ICAN/ACCA is an added advantage.
