Job Title: Junior Lawyer I

Location: Lagos

Job Summary

  • We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Lawyer with 3-4 years post-call experience to join our legal team.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and research skills, a solid understanding of legal principles, and experience in handling client matters across various practice areas.
  • This role offers an opportunity to work on diverse legal cases, provide advisory services, and develop expertise under the guidance of senior lawyers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth research on case laws, regulations, and statutes to support legal proceedings and advisory work.
  • Prepare legal documents, including contracts, pleadings, agreements, and legal opinions.
  • Assist in case preparation, court filings, and liaising with external counsel. Attend court proceedings, tribunals, and arbitration hearings as required.
  • Provide legal advice to clients on corporate, commercial, regulatory, and compliance matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, ensuring alignment with legal and business requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks, liaising with government agencies where necessary.
  • Support mediation, arbitration, and settlement negotiations.
  • Work closely with senior associates and partners on case strategy, due diligence, and risk assessments.
  • Draft legal opinions, letters, and reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • LL.B Degree from a recognized university and BL from the Nigerian Law School (or relevant jurisdiction).
  • Experience: 3-4 years of active post-call experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial, corporate, litigation, and regulatory law.
  • Ability to draft clear, concise, and legally sound documents.
  • Prior experience in dispute resolution and court representation is an advantage.
  • Strong ability to assess legal issues and provide strategic solutions.
  • High level of accuracy in legal drafting and document review.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professionalism & Ethics: Strong integrity, confidentiality, and adherence to professional ethics.
  • Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with legal research tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and case management software.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in corporate law, dispute resolution, or regulatory compliance.
  • Exposure to commercial transactions, contract negotiations, and employment law.
  • Previous involvement in legal advisory for businesses or start-ups.
