The Opportunity

  • As a Staff, you will be a professional member of our Financial Accounting Advisory Services (FAAS) team.
  • Our Financial Accounting Advisory Services (FAAS) team consists of dedicated accounting advisory professionals in five locations across the country.
  • We combine technical accounting skills in IFRS, Canadian and US GAAP, practical experience in financial reporting as well as deep sector and regulatory knowledge.
  • We have access to a global network of professionals with wide-ranging financial accounting standards knowledge.
  • We help finance leaders address the strategic accounting challenges and ongoing changes facing their business and manage the resulting repercussions on the accounting and finance function.
  • We help them achieve their potential in acquisitions, divestitures, optimization/restructuring or accounting standards convergence.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with client management throughout the year.
  • Establish expectations of value to be delivered.
  • Participate in performing Canadian GAAP and IFRS analysis procedures, especially focusing on complex and/or specialized issues.
  • Create reports and other deliverables.
  • Understand the client’s industry and recognize key performance drivers, business trends, and emerging technical and industry developments.
  • Stay informed of general business/economic developments and their impact to the client.
  • Develop people by encouraging individuals to think for themselves and take responsibility for their contributions to the team.
  • Delegate work successfully.
  • Conduct timely performance reviews and provide performance feedback/training. Lead by example.
  • Use technology to continually learn, share knowledge with team members, and enhance service delivery.
  • Maintain an educational program to continually develop skills. Maintain cooperative relationships with other engagement teams.
  • Monitor the engagement team’s progress against the plan and alter it when needed.
  • Generate new business opportunities.
  • Understand EY and its service lines and actively assess/present ways to apply knowledge and services.
  • Develop long-term relationships and networks both internally and externally.

Requirements
To qualify for the role you must have:

  • A Degree in Accounting and/or other appropriate academic major and a minimum of 3-5 years’ relevant experience along with CPA, CA designation
  • Strong experience in banking or Insurance industry
  • Audit or business experience in financial statement close or the application of accounting standards

  • Demonstrate mastery of key concepts and principles related to process improvements, project management and change management; show an ability to apply these consistently in engagement settings
  • Impeccable client relationship skills
  • A dedication to teamwork and leadership
  • Good communication skills, with proficiency in English

2). Actuarial Associate

Job Summary

  • In this role you will also have the unique opportunity to broaden your network by working alongside our Insurance and Actuarial Advisory Services colleagues and serving a diverse pool of  companies, including major global insurers and reinsurers.

What to expect

  • We’ll look to you to support our Client Engagement teams, performing diverse range of actuarial tasks, including financial modelling, loss reserving, financial and regulatory reporting, litigation support, customer analytics, e-claims, product development and pricing analysis, rate setting and other consulting projects.
  • The role is designed to support you in your exams, backing up your academic and analytical progress with real-world, business oriented challenges.
  • It’s a growing area that is seeing new applications as the digital age progresses, so there’s no limit to where, or what industries you could be supporting as you develop.

Your key responsibilities

  • Developing a comprehensive understanding of popular actuarial processes and tools, all while prioritizing and creating work plans
  • Building lasting relationships at all levels while working to interpret each client’s unique terminology, objectives, and motivators
  • Keeping up to date with industry news and trends, and actively identifying risks or opportunities to improve our services
  • Continually learning and sharing your knowledge with the wider actuarial team
  • Travelling regularly, potentially internationally, to meet with clients face-to-face.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or other related major.
  • A minimum of 3 years of related actuarial experience.
  • A minimum of 2 actuarial exam passed and must be pursuing Associateship in the Society of Actuarie.
  • A proven ability to manage time while working on multiple, often shifting, projects, and the confidence to work both collaboratively and independently under pressure
  • Excellent analytical and project management skills, along with a creative approach to overcoming challenges
  • The ability to understand and persuade on complex subjects both in writing and verbally.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Master’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or other related major
  • Associateship in the Society of Actuaries (ASA).

  • We’re most interested in intellectually curious actuaries with a clear passion for actuarial work.
  • You’ll also need to be a great communicator, as well as flexible in the face of often rapidly changing projects.
