Job Title: Community Relations Officer

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers

Employment Type: Contract

Job Objective

  • The Community Relations Officer (CRO) is responsible for fostering strong relationships between Dorman Long Engineering (DLE) and the local communities affected by its operations.
  • The role is key in addressing community concerns, ensuring open communication, and preventing and resolving conflicts.
  • The CRO plays a vital part in restoring trust and building partnerships to ensure smooth project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the liaison between DLE and community leaders, ensuring transparent communication on issues affecting local communities.
  • Proactively identify and address potential community concerns, preventing conflicts from escalating.
  • Plan and monitor CSR projects, ensuring they align with both community needs and DLE’s objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with community engagement regulations and keep management informed on legal requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Public Relations, Community Development, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in community relations, ideally in the oil & gas, engineering, or construction sectors.
  • Experience in high-conflict environments, particularly in the Niger Delta, is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in local languages is an advantage.

  • Excellent conflict resolution and communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and trust with internal and external stakeholders.
