Job Title: IT Engineer

Location: Lagos State

Job Overview

  • Interface with System Integrators and Enterprise Architects to deliver on projects and digital solutions.
  • Analysing, planning, building of Infrastructure projects
  • Work on other tasks as assigned IT Leadership team and Team Lead, Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture and Planning:

  • Establish the overall system architecture documentation and implement standards and guidelines that guide the design and technology solutions, in collaboration with the Bank’s Application Architect and Head of Information Security
  • Architect and design secure, robust, scalable infrastructure platforms to support delivery of the Bank’s channels and services. This also includes adoption of reusable technology assets to improve efficiency.
  • Implement life-cycle planning for all in-scope infrastructure components
  • Ensure regular health checks of all “major” infrastructure components are performed, including business continuity and disaster recovery elements and regular testing of back-up solutions
  • Define standards and policies for the deployment and operation of all in-scope infrastructure
  • Undertake capacity planning for all storage, compute resources and network bandwidth
  • Undertake financial planning and budgeting to support the annual budget process

Skills/Competencies

  • Strong working knowledge of Server (Physical + Virtual)
  • Strong working knowledge of Desktop engineering
  • Sound understanding of Networking
  • Sound understanding of Information Security
  • Sound understanding of the IT Architecture concepts and systems designs & integrations.
  • Good understanding of Application Lifecycle Management

Qualifications & Experience

Mandatory Desirable

  • First degree in Computing Science, Engineering, Operational sciences or (any other discipline with strong Information Systems component and/or relevant IT Service Management certification)
  • 2 or more years of experience in at least two IT disciplines in a client/server or service-oriented architecture (SOA) environment, including any combination of technical architecture, network design, application development, systems integration & middleware, servers and storage, database management, and operations.
  • Proven experience and understanding of architecture principles across infrastructure platforms, security, data, integration and applications layers
  • Prior experience in managing Vendors including contract negotiation and service level management

Expert technical skills in:

  • Network, security and communications (design, devices, protocols)
  • Linux and Windows server technologies
  • Design and operation of DNS, AD and desktop delivery solutions

Acquisition and deployment:

  • Foster close engagement with software development and project terms to identify and document emerging requirements
  • Undertake solution architecture, high-level design and/or detailed design documentation as appropriate
  • Prepare vendor engagement documents including RFIs and RFPs
  • Perform vendor identification, engagement, selection, negotiation and relationship management
  • Drive product evaluation and selection of new infrastructure products to meet strategic business initiatives. This may include project activities from proof-of-concepts, production deployment and handover to operations

Operations and Management:

  • Manage team resources between BAU and project commitments ensuring that the Bank’s uptime SLA’s are met
  • Provide leadership support and expert hands-on technical support and guidance to the engineering team. This also includes providing support as required to support the upskilling of the Desktop team
  • Undertaken self and team training and development

Scope:

  • Desktop, server, storage and networking infrastructure
  • Desktop and server virtualization software
  • Backup/recovery and replication infrastructure
  • Operating system software
  • Domain and Collaboration
  • All external cloud resources
  • (ALM), software development methodology (e.g., agile, waterfall)
  • Knowledge of all components of a technical architecture.
  • Basic knowledge of financial models and budgeting.

Desirables

  • MBA, System Analysis or Architecture certifications are desirable.
  • ITIL and other professional qualification will be an added advantage
  • Ability to proffer technical solutions to business problems.
  • Ability to conceptualize complex systems and provide support for accurate technology decision-making
