1). Video Journalist

Location: Abuja

Summary

  • As one of our digital journalists, you will be playing a critical role in shaping our digital content and leading engagement with our audience across platforms.
  • You will be part of the digital team that delivers high quality news content online and on social media that suits our diverse audiences, especially young people.
  • You need to be a creative and resourceful journalist with understanding of the preferences of digital audiences.
  • Based in Abuja, you will research, initiate, gather, and produce materials for news, current affairs, and other formats to be published on our website and social media platforms.

Job Roles

  • To work with other members of the Aminiya and Daily Trust Digital Teams, to produce high quality content that meets professional standards;
  • To generate and contribute ideas for news and content development across platform;
  • To originate, identify and produce innovative and creative news and current affairs content for different platforms, including social media such as Facebook and Instagram;
  • To write and/or prepare scripts, sub and/or edit copy for online publication and originate new formats for delivery on digital platforms;
  • To create multimedia content, craft headlines and teasers that promote our stories in such a way that they appeal to a wide range of audience;
  • To create attractive and engaging social media specific content, including pictures, text, and videos.

Requirements

  • Candidates should possess relevant qualifications
  • At least three-year experience in a newsroom setting.

Competencies and key responsibilities:

  • Thorough understanding of social media journalism and the ability to create visually appealing content, including lives and other engaging formats.
  • Ability to work well as part of a diverse team – with editors, producers and other journalists.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Nigerian media landscape and its challenges and prospects.
  • Thorough knowledge of, and interest in, local, regional, and national as well as, where appropriate, international news and current affairs.
  • The ability to work without supervision and under pressure, and deliver against tight deadlines.

2). Social Media Manager

Location: Abuja

Summary

  • The Social Media Manager leads the Daily Trust social media strategy, reporting directly to the Online editor.
  • The candidate coordinates and supervises the social team to distribute content and engage our audience on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin, TikTok and newer platforms.
  • The ideal candidate will have video editing skills and the ability to produce appealing visual content for different social media platforms, develop and lead the team to execute an effective YouTube strategy.

Job roles

  • Supervises the social media team
  • Writes and edits social posts and stories from the website Coordinate, evaluate, and manage growth strategies for each platform
  • Identify, plan and execute social media and community engagement activities for Daily Trust and Trust TV social platforms
  • Create copies for paid and organic social media, banner ads, publicity materials, and e-newsletters to build an audience and drive engagement.
  • Develop plans to convert social media followers to loyal audience.
  • Set KPIs and track metrics for growth
  • Develop plans for sharing and resharing long videos and making them appeal to our readers.

Requirements

  • Candidates should possess relevant qualifications and work experience.

Competencies and key responsibilities:

  • Management experience in a newsroom setting
  • He/she must possess impeccable writing and copy-editing skills
  • The candidate must be able to assign, commission and guide reporters to do good, accurate, unique and unbiased stories. Must have the ability and skills to enrich and contextualise news reports.
  • He/she must be very meticulous and should be able to identify gaps in news items and ensure same are filed appropriately.
  • The candidate must be able to separate the wheat from the chaff; that is, select and publish only quality stories that are of interest to the readers.
