Senior Product Engineer – Frontend Tech Lead at SunFi

• SunFi.co is leveraging its leadership experience as a Distributed Energy Provider (DEP) to build a Clean Energy FinTech platform that helps Distributed Solar Energy Providers scale their clean energy business to millions of consumers in Nigeria and eventually other parts of the world. SunFi provides Solar Energy installers and their consumers access to Solar payment plans, solution design & analysis tools, and supply chain partnerships that help catalyze the transition to clean energy.

About the Role

• The employee will be responsible for the supervision, delegation, and development of tasks assigned during the Agile sprint or project. This position documents programs, develops and implements new features, and supports critical web applications’ layer architecture and various frontend systems supporting the platform and other digital initiatives. The employee will report to the CTO and be required to effectively communicate with and engage colleagues, leadership, and junior colleagues.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for the Frontend Engineering team with frontend engineers reporting to you.
• Lead and participate in the end-to-end development of responsive and intuitive user interfaces for our web applications.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to translate design concepts and user requirements into functional front-end features.
• Provide technical leadership in frontend architecture, guiding the team in selecting appropriate frameworks, libraries, and tools to optimize performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code that adheres to industry best practices and coding standards.
• Mentor and guide frontend engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and skill development within the frontend engineering team.
• Conduct code reviews, approvals, and merges to ensure code quality, consistency, and alignment with architectural guidelines.
• Collaborate in agile development processes, participating in sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
• Works closely with a product manager, product owner, and QA to ensure that test coverage for upcoming releases is in place.
• Troubleshoot and resolve frontend-related issues, ensuring smooth functionality and a positive user experience.
• Contribute to optimizing web application performance and addressing cross-browser compatibility challenges.
• Accountable for Frontend Engineering KPIs (Development, Management & Observability)
• Design, set up, and supervise continuous integration and delivery processes for the Frontend team/products.
• Stay current with emerging front-end technologies, trends, and best practices, and advocate for their adoption when appropriate.

Leadership and People Development

• Support efforts to collaborate with the company’s leadership to train SunFi talent.
• Supports the development of SunFi and Team OKRs and KPIs, including individual KPIs within the Frontend team.
• A focus on value creation for the company, not task orientation.
• Display and exercise business leadership practices within the company and with stakeholders.
• Support the recruitment, management, mentorship, and development of the Frontend team to innovatively and competently deliver the results required of the team.
• Responsible for performance management, training needs analysis and optimization of the team’s personnel.
• Evaluate, and where possible, build thought leadership within SunFi that enhances the company culture and values.
• Conduct weekly informal check-ins with all team members. These are unstructured scheduled meetings in which your team member and you can discuss areas of your interest, professional or personal. Emphasis should be placed on relationship-building
• Runs meetings on the frontend team with the coaching and support of your Manager, and the Head of the department.
• Advocates for the SunFi culture including ensuring team members use video as much as possible during meetings. You must be exemplary.

Reporting

• Responsible for structuring and communicating key feedback to Growth, Platform Finance, and other stakeholders
• Responsible for mastering the SunFi Technology SunFi Platform
• Responsible for recommending and leveraging the right tools for reports and developing insights

Qualifications:

• At least 6 years of front-end programming experience with a minimum of 2 years managing a team of Engineers.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other front-end technologies.
• Strong knowledge of ReactJS, NextJs, Typescript, and their various ecosystem is required.
• Strong understanding of Frontend Architecture and design patterns.
• Can work with RESTFul APIs, GraphQL APIs, gRPC, and modern web stacks (transpilers, linters, build and CI/CD tools, etc).
• Experience with testing frameworks such as Jest, Mocha, and Enzyme.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and debug complex front-end issues.
• Demonstrated experience in optimizing front-end performance and addressing browser compatibility challenges.
• Familiarity with agile development methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Git, GitHub, Jenkins, Travis CI, or Gitlab CI is a plus.
• Experience with backend technologies such as Node.js and SQL databases is a plus.
• Ability to “think outside the box” while identifying problems and developing creative solutions.
• Ability to work in a distributed and remote-first team.
