1). WASH Officer

Location: Borno

JOB PURPOSE

  • The position is responsible for Production of BoQs, of WASH infrastructures Designs, supervision of all construction and rehabilitation activities in INTERSOS – including water supply systems, sanitation facilities and other related infrastructures.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the general guidance from the WASH Supervisor, the officer will undertake the following duties.
  • Ensure the development of accurate Bill of Quantities (BoQs) and detailed technical drawings for all the WASH interventions in liaison with relevant technical staff from the government authorities and implementing partners.
  • Supervise and be responsible for all the technical aspect for project implementation, make sure that contractors complete project work in a timely, efficient and accurate manner with respect to standard engineering.
  • Ensure community involvement at all phases of the project and the development of community ownership of the project.
  • Guarantee the respect of construction standards as well as the security practices at the project site.
  • Provide feedback to the monitoring and evaluation system in order to assess the effectiveness and the impact of the projects and propose recommendations for improvement.
  • Contribute to the development of constructive solutions to challenges identified by the community and contractors.
  • Facilitate and maintain a good professional relationship between INTERSOS, communities and contractors.
  • Provide regular written and verbal reports to the WASH supervisor on the infrastructure’s development activities.
  • With the help of the WASH supervisor and the contractor, develop and maintain weekly, monthly plans and written comprehensive records of engineering/WASH work undertaken in the project including site visits and reporting of work progress.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • A Degree in Water Engineering, civil engineering or other related discipline.
  • At least 1 year of experience in similar position/related/working in a construction company
  • Professional experience in community WASH programs(Soft/Hard) in displaced populations
  • Excellent program implementation skills
  • Good communication skills.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Understanding of local language is a plus (Hausa or Kanuri)
  • Ability to use and analysis civil and water resources applications (EPANET, AutoCAD etc)

2). WASH Supervisor

Location: Borno

JOB PURPOSE

  • Under the supervision of the WASH Manager, the WASH Supervisor will be responsible for the planning and implementation of all the WASH activities defined in a project. Coordinating with WASH partners in conjunction with the government authorities and overseeing the quality of INTERSOS’ interactions with the beneficiaries, ensuring strong relationships, and fostering community engagement, awareness and ownership of all INTERSOS activities related to water, sanitation and hygiene in targeted LGAs, within Borno State. The role holder will oversee reporting on all WASH activities via weekly work plans, schedules and people management; supporting the team in developing new concept ideas, capacity building and development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the WASH Manager, the WASH Supervisor will be responsible for:

  • Production of BoQs, of WASH infrastructures Designs.
  • Monitors the construction of water supply systems and distributions, network, gravity flow, drinking water quality and treatment (Chlorination).
  • Works along with the hygiene promotion team in all the processes of selecting, designing, implementing and monitoring the WASH systems and activities by meetings and good communication.
  • Provides technical input and advice in emergency response water and sanitation activities, as well as waste management and hygiene promotion.
  • Follows up on the implementation of requested integrated activities (awareness sessions, assessments)
  • Monitors the drilling of bore holes, that is water source development, well and borehole installation.
  • Participates in drafting new proposals of activities, including the technical descriptions and the budget associated with them
  • Ensure community involvement at all phases of the project and the development of community ownership of the project.
  • Provides detailed, accurate and timely weekly reports to supervisor on activities, challenges and areas in need of improvement
  • Supervises field staff, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in their duties, and foster growth and development.
  • Ensures constant communication with INTERSOS WASH staff to identify potential problems, formulate recommendations and solutions and report
  • Conducts regular monitoring visits to the field, to follow-up on INTERSOS activities and ensure community participation in the activities
  • Ensures that consideration is given with focus on gender, protection and HIV/AIDS in water and sanitation activities.
  • Participates in organizing all logistical support for meetings, seminars, workshops and missions
  • Attends the Co-ordination meetings conduct needs assessments of the area whenever requested, inform and co-ordinate the WASH activities with the other agencies and actors carrying out similar activities.
  • Solar panel design and installation.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • A Degree in Water Engineering, civil engineering or other related discipline;
  • Work experience in similar position/Construction company.
  • Work experience in nutrition/Health sector in emergency.
  • Professional experience in community WASH Soft/hard in displaced populations
  • Excellent program implementation skills
  • Good communication skills.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Understand of the local language added advantage (Hausa or Kanuri)
  • Ability to use and analysis civil and water resources applications (EPANET, AutoCAD etc)

3). Outreach and Hygiene Promotion Officer

Location: Borno

JOB PURPOSE

  • Under the guidance of the WASH Supervisor and the OHP Officer, the Hygiene Promotion Assistant is responsible for planning and mobilizing the communities for WASH activities, trainings Water Management Committees and communities on hygiene awareness campaigns and data collection that support the INTERSOS WASH team in developing new concept notes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures community participation in all WASH activities; Mobilize, train and follow-up on communities/WASH committees formed and/or trained by INTERSOS in all activities concerning WASH, ensuring good community participation, gender balance and ownership by the community.
  • Plans for, organizes and conducts trainings for communities and committees through the development of Water Management Committees, School hygiene clubs and implementation of Community based hygiene awareness activities.
  • Ensures constant communication with INTERSOS WASH staff to identify potential problems, formulate recommendations and solutions.
  • Conducts regular monitoring visits to the field to follow-up on INTERSOS activities and ensure community participation in the activities.
  • Ensures that consideration is given with focus on gender, protection and HIV/AIDS in water and sanitation activities.
  • Gathers health and hygiene related information and report to Hygiene Promotion Officer.
  • Liaises with community leaders and other groups within their communities.
  • Conducts relevant needs assessment whenever requested.
  • Provides detailed, accurate and timely weekly reports to supervisor on activities, challenges and areas in need of improvement.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of Diploma in Environmental Health Studies, Social Sciences or other relevant fields
  • Relevant experience and training in Hygiene Promotion
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in WASH, preferably with a humanitarian organization.
  • Strong humanitarian commitment.
  • Quality: dynamic, autonomous, Proactive, flexible, take initiative.
  • Availability to work in targeted LGAs, Borno State.

Languages

  • Fluency in English
  • Fluency in Kanuri and Hausa will be considered a plus

4). Outreach and Hygiene Promotion Assistant

JOB PURPOSE

  • Under the guidance of the WASH Supervisor, the role ensures the effective implementation of WASH activities within IDPs and host communities through good gender balance, community participation and ownership.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports in conducting needs assessment and gather information and report to WASH supervisor.
  • Mobilizes, train and follow-up on communities/WASH committees formed and/or trained by INTERSOS in all activities concerning WASH, ensuring good community participation, gender balance and ownership by the community.
  • Facilitates the implementation of WASH activities within IDP and Host Communities, ensuring good community participation, gender balance and ownership of programmes by the community.
  • Under the direction of the WASH Supervisor, plans field activities in communities that reduces WASH-related health risks by training and supervising Community Mobilizers
  • Conducts public Hygiene Promotion sessions in each neighbourhood or village.
  • Conducts periodic focus group discussions, awareness campaign, plan child to child hygiene sessions and organize events with children to raise hygiene and heath awareness.
  • Carries out mobilization of key community stakeholders including protection committee, youths, women, men and host communities to participate in community awareness events/meetings.
  • Ensures constant communication with INTERSOS WASH staff to identify potential problems, formulate recommendations and solutions and report.
  • Conducts regular monitoring visits to the field, to follow-up on INTERSOS activities and ensure community participation.
  • Ensures that consideration is given with focus on gender, protection and HIV/AIDS in water and sanitation activities.
  • Provide detailed, accurate and timely weekly reports to supervisor on activities, challenges and areas in need of improvement.

  • A minimum of Degree in Environmental Health Studies, Social Sciences or other relevant fields
