1). Influencing Officer

Location: Yobe

The opportunity

  • Plan International Nigeria, as part of its commitment to improving the lives of people in the country, especially in the communities we serve and ensuring that issues limiting the opportunity for people to live a life devoid of disaster is commencing a project on climate resilience project in Adamawa and Yobe States. The project designed as a four-year intervention, up scalable to 12 years, is expected to have a spiral effect in other parts of the country beyond the project implementation states. While the project will apply the Climate Resilience Measurement for Communities (CRMC) to address flood incidence in the project states, it will also focus on engagement with relevant federal government agencies on flooding and other climate-related matters. Project actions at the states will serve as models for purposeful interventions that could be expanded to the national level. The project will focus on making communities more resilient to floods by supporting systems strengthening and providing relevant technical reinforcement to emergency management structures that need to be strengthened at the community level linked to LGA and the state levels up to the national level, ensuring coordination and purposeful collaboration among the agencies. There will also be a high level of community engagement, mobilisation of community structures, capacity building in organising, mobilisation, self-help, advocacy and policy influencing of the community structures.

The project is developed in line with our ambition to scale up our humanitarian-development-peace (HDP) nexus in Nigeria by promoting strong coordination across humanitarian and development programming and influencing.

The Climate Resilience Influencing Officer will serve as a contact point with relevant stakeholders such as government agencies, community structures, youth platforms, women and girls’ groups, BMOs, media and other interest groups. The Influencing Officer will have the responsibility of mobilising all of these energies to strengthen community resilience and ensure cohesion in response plans of relevant agencies of government and civil society.

About You

  • We are looking for a holder of Minimum of a Degree in the Social Sciences or the Humanities. Evidence of additional training and certification in Advocacy, Campaigns and Social Norms, Marketing will be an advantage.
  • He/she should possess at least 3years experience in similar role with Membership of relevant professional bodies. Knowledge of Climate Resilience Measurement for Communities (CRMC) Awareness of Nigeria’s National and State Emergency Management System, Structures, Agencies and existing Early Warning Systems (EWS) will be an added advantage

2). Project Coordinator

About You

We are looking for a candidate who possess the following qualification:

  • Degree in Environment Management, Environmental Science or any other relevant field.
  • A post-graduate degree in Environment Management, Environmental Science or any other relevant field will be an advantage
  • At least 5years experience in related roles.
  • Evidence of additional training and certification in environmental impact assessment (EIA), and environmental management and auditing is desirable
  • Evidence of additional training and certification in Behaviour Change Communication and/or Social Norms Marketing will be an advantage.

3). Social Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) Officer

  • The Social Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) Officer will under the supervision of the Project Coordinator provide relevant technical lead on actions directed at addressing social norms that drive environmental degradation, flood incidence and increase people’s vulnerability to climate change. S/He will lead in all of the efforts at achieving behaviour change among all stakeholders. The Social Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) Officer will have the responsibility of mobilising resources, expertise, institutions and persons towards engendering a culture shift among duty bearers and right holders towards reduction of people’s vulnerability to flood disaster and towards achieving climate change adaptation and community resilience.

About You

  • We are looking for a person with background in community mobilisation and field experience in designing and implementing Social Behavioural Change and Communication-related projects. The desired candidate should also have knowledge of evidence-based, innovative, and practical solutions to communication challenges in fragile environments and rural communities. An Understanding of widely accepted formative research, pretesting, and monitoring and evaluation methodologies for effective demand generation, marketing and SBCC interventions.
  • He/she should possess at least 3years experience in similar role with Minimum of a Degree in Communication Studies or in any related field in the Social Sciences or the Humanities. Evidence of additional training and certification in Behaviour Change Communication and/or Social Norms Marketing will be an advantage. Membership of relevant professional bodies is desirable.

4). Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) Officer

The project designed as a four-year intervention, up scalable to 12 years, is expected to have a spiral effect in other parts of the country beyond the project implementation states. While the project will apply the Climate Resilience Measurement for Communities (CRMC) to address flood incidence in the project states, it will also focus on engagement with relevant federal government agencies on flooding and other climate-related matters. Project actions at the states will serve as models for purposeful interventions that could be expanded to the national level. The project will focus on making communities more resilient to floods by supporting systems strengthening and providing relevant technical reinforcement to emergency management structures that need to be strengthened at the community level linked to LGA and the state levels up to the national level, ensuring coordination and purposeful collaboration among the agencies.
  • The Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) Officer will implement the project’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) initiatives by providing timely, accurate information on project implementation and ensure that monitoring and evaluation are in line with specific project and donor requirements, and in line with Plan International’s MERL standards. The role’s support is to achieve accountability, transparency and programme quality in project locations. The post holder is to ensure that project’s activities are in line with the Logical Framework and relevant guidelines.

About You

  • We are looking for a holder of Bachelors’ degree and minimum of 3 years’ work experience in monitoring and evaluating programs with an organization that has a robust MERL component. Prior experience with Plan International or related non-governmental organization is preferred. In addition, experience in developing child-friendly MERL systems/tools or doing research with children is a strong asset.
  • He/she should have proven expertise in quantitative and qualitative methodologies, research, reporting, data quality assessments, data analysis and presentation. Demonstrated strong management, coordination, teamwork and planning skills with proven ability to function effectively with multiple counterparts in private, public and NGO sectors.
