1). Senior Mechanic

Location: Akwa Ibom

Job Grade

F – Professional

Job Purpose/Objectives

  • To maintain rotating and other mechanical equipment safely and efficiently in all Savannah’s oil/gas facilities including pipelines network in Nigeria.
  • Work with the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Lead to oversee maintenance inspection, monitor inventory, assemble mechanical components and perform repairs.
  • To satisfy the technical integrity target and ensure all mechanical equipment is operated within design limit.
  • Work with third-party contractors during major equipment overhaul and ensure tasks are carried out in accordance with approved scope of work and industry best practices.
  • Oversees maintenance inspection, monitors inventory, assembles mechanical components and performs repairs while on shift.
  • Completes all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function.
  • To provide maintenance best practices and mentorship to the less experienced technicians.

Job & Main Specifications (Education/Knowledge, Skills, Attributes, Experience & Other Required Details)

Education/Knowledge

  • A minimum of City & Guilds Level 3 or OND in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited higher institution with at least five (5) year’s post-industrial attachment in maintenance activities in Oil/Gas Process facility. Two (2) years of which should be as a Senior Mechanic.

Skills & Attributes

  • Skilled in the installation, repair, and maintenance of Mechanical equipment (CAT/Cummins Generators, Pumps, Turbines, Compressors, HVAC etc) and components.
  • Knowledge of the rotating diagnostic tools, equipment and materials common to the Mechanical discipline.
  • Good time management and communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft office packages.
  • Must be conversant with PTW system, isolation, de-isolation, Loct Out Tag Out (LOTO) system in oil/gas industry.
  • Knowledge of applicable mechanical codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Good understanding of work order system in SAP.
  • Strong attention to detail with an attitude for problem-solving.
  • Receives little regular guidance and work review.
  • Creativity and hands-on problem-solving.
  • Ability to operate different types of machinery and use various software programs.

  • Good understanding of documentation in the gas processing facility including: –
  • P & ID (Piping and Instrumentation diagrams, Process Flow Sheets)
  • General Assembly drawings
  • Piping Isometric drawings
  • Maintenance reporting
  • Equipment status data readings
  • Work permits
  • Incidents/Accident reports.
  • Material Safety Datasheet (MSDS).

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Inspect equipment, specialize in diagnosing mechanical problems and establishes baseline performance and recommends to Supervisor for repairs work to be carried out.
  • Observe company safety rules and regulations and continuously practices good housekeeping.
  • Report or correct any unsafe condition or practice and assist in organizing safety meetings; follow operation excellence tenets and guidelines.
  • Perform skilled mechanical work such as precision equipment alignment, installing pumps, motors, compressors etc.
  • Perform detailed analysis of pumps, compressors, motors, gas engines and other mechanical equipment and compare actual operating data with work specified on data sheets.
  • Collect and interpret operating and downtime data. Recommend and execute corrective actions.
  • Fabricate, assemble, or install equipment and set up and evaluate performance of equipment.
  • Maintain work logs, repairs, and maintenance records.
  • Demonstrate skills in fixing rotating equipment and mechanical systems.
  • Perform repairs on flanges, piping, valves, vessels, boilers/heaters, glycol regeneration system, mechanical refrigeration system, fuel gas system, water hydrant system, pressure regulators, heat exchangers, generators. etc.
  • Report both normal and recurring conditions and recommends improvement as appropriate.
  • Administer task according to standard operating procedures and system.
  • Assist the maintenance planner in developing details plan/schedules for plant turnaround maintenance (TAM)
  • Observe all company safe work practices, job methods, code requirement, statutory requirement, and other SOPs requirement.
  • Conduct a test to ascertain the safety of any mechanical designs.
  • Coordinate on-the-job training (OJT) for technicians.
  • Identify parts needed for replacement and place orders, as necessary.
  • Proficient in solving complex mechanical problems.
  • Maintain designed maintenance chart and recording for the purpose of reference.
  • Report to Maintenance Supervisor or Mechanical Lead on machinery inventory.
  • Maintain a clean work environment in line with established standards of hygiene and housekeeping.

2). Field Operator

Job Purpose/Objectives

  • Operate, monitor, and control the assigned units of the plant to process, store, and export products as per specification, while maintaining company and HSE requirements to maximize plant yield.

Job & Main Specifications (Education/Knowledge, Skills, Attributes, Experience & Other Required Details)

Education/Experience

  • A minimum of OND, City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in any engineering discipline with at least two (2) years’ experience in process plant operations in an oil/gas production and processing facility, wellhead operations, refining or petrochemical industry.

Skills & Attributes

  • Working knowledge of oil and gas operations (wellheads operations, well testing, gas dehydration, compression, pipelines, measurement, etc.).
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties with little supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office packages.
  • Good time management and communication skills.

  • Good understanding of documentation in gas processing facilities including:

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists in the monitoring of the facility parameters and equipment (UGPF, IGRF, City gate/Unicem PRMS and Stubb Creek) while ensuring strict adherence to safety procedures for the overall safety of the plant.
  • Carry out daily monitoring and recording of all plant operating parameters (flow, pressure, temperature, and level) and report abnormalities to supervisor.
  • Assist in Operating plant facilities’ equipment and systems including, but not limited to process controls, pumps, instrument air system, dehydrators, fuel gas system, emergency shutdown systems, gas generators, reciprocating compressors, diesel generators, gas-fired boilers, process pumps and mechanical refrigeration system, PRMS, water hydrant systems etc.
  • Assist Senior Operator in well head operations, wells performance surveillance through parameter logging and documentation in the log sheets.
  • Participate in well testing activities, monitoring/recording of test parameters.
  • Monitor and operate electrical and hydraulic control panels, safety and emergency shutdown devices and fire and gas systems.
  • Assist in the preparation of plant equipment report.
  • Assist during planned periodic maintenance work on the process plant equipment and well heads.
  • Assist Senior Operator/Operator Lead in preparing process equipment for maintenance work and conduct all necessary inspections to ensure safety of personnel and equipment.
  • Complete monthly and annual compliance testing of safety devices.
  • Responsible for taking of samples and completion of sampling card and dispatch to laboratory.
  • Carry out equipment troubleshooting with Senior Operators and other maintenance team.
  • Operate (start-up and shutdown) of non-critical equipment to ensure continuous operation of the plant.
  • Attend and participate in daily operations review meetings with Operations personnel to discuss the preceding 24-hour activities and plan the coming day’s activities.
  • Ensure compliance with company policy, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Respond to emergencies according to emergency procedures deploying safety equipment where necessary.
  • Attend and participate in monthly safety meetings and drills with facility operations personnel.
  • Carry out routine checks on equipment and report abnormalities to the maintenance department for corrective activity.
  • Ability to work with little supervision.
  • Maintain a clean work environment in line with established standards of hygiene and housekeeping.
