1). Technical Service Consultant, Capacity Building & Training (Coordinator)

Location: Abuja

Position Summary

  • The Capacity Building & Training Coordinator is expected to bring to the role proven experience and skills in and training of conflict transformation, conflict resolution, conflict sensitivity, and do no harm (DNH) principles along with human rights.
  • The candidate will have skills in training government actors at the local and state level that includes security personnel in the Common Ground approach to conflict resolution and human rights; the candidate will also have experience working with different stakeholders and leading dialogue processes.
  • The primary purpose of this position is to both coordinate all training and facilitate training/workshops in Northern Nigeria where Search operates in the Common Ground approach on all project training.
  • The position holder will work with key stakeholders that include community leaders, the security sector, government officials, women, and Youths to understand the cycle programming and the importance of building confidence and fostering good relationships.
  • The position holder will work with the project teams to design, review, update, and roll out capacity-building and training activities related to mitigating conflict-related issues in Northern Nigeria.
  • S/he will build synergy and collaborate with project managers in the allocation of both human, material, and financial resources for the effective utilization of our internal capacity to maximize our inputs, outcomes, and results.

Roles and Responsibilities
Design workshops and develop training modules where needed:
Reporting:

  • Needs Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments to identify the capacity gaps and needs within the organization and communities.
  • Develop and implement an effective training coordination strategy for the project across the 19 Northern States
  • Develop detailed plans for capacity-building programs, including timelines, objectives, deliverables, and resource requirements.
  • Work with the project teams to ensure all training needs are planned and met and;
  • Support implementation of all Search’s training activities in the region, either in–person or through hired training consultants;
  • Establishing and maintaining partnerships with partner organizations, experts, and consultants to leverage their knowledge, expertise, and resources in capacity-building efforts.
  • Organizing and coordinating training sessions, workshops, or other capacity-building activities, ensuring they are delivered effectively and meet the identified needs.
  • Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the effectiveness and impact of capacity-building interventions, collect data, and analyze results to inform decision-making and improve future programs.
  • Design each training to be culturally identifiable to the context; Search programs, and for the participants attending the training;
  • Design training material, methodology, and training guide templates;
  • The coordinator is expected to be delivering training that will focus on: Principles of Common Ground in conflict transformation; Conflict resolution and mitigating strategies; Conflict sensitivity and Do No Harm; Dispute resolution; Human rights; Non adversarial Advocacy; Transformative dialogue and interfaith dialogues processes and; Strategies for Trauma Awareness and Resilience (STAR ) co-facilitating with trauma lead.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among stakeholders, including staff, trainers, and participants, to ensure smooth coordination and implementation of capacity-building initiatives.
  • Continuously assessing and refining capacity-building strategies based on feedback, evaluation results, and emerging needs to enhance the effectiveness and relevance of future initiatives
  • The coordinator will be using Search’s Common Ground Approach manuals and other Search-developed manuals as a basis for adapting the training curriculum to the projects’ needs
  • Write a monthly summary report highlighting training, lessons learned, and challenges, and recommendations including success highlights, feedback from participants, and recommendations for the next stages of Search’s program (sent to line supervisor).
  • Carry out a feedback session in communities after months of training implementation, to gauge how practical the training had been and how participants are putting into use the training learning.

Educational Qualification

  • A Degree or Post graduate Degree in Conflict Resolution, Peace Studies, Peacebuilding, Conflict Management, or relevant field;
  • Additional certification in capacity building or training, conflict management, peacebuilding, and conflict resolution

Required Experience:

  • At least 5 years experience as a trainer, two of those years should be in the non-profit and NGO sector in relevant topics (as per above mentioned list) for a diverse range of audiences (from communities to authorities);
  • Have facilitated/ co-facilitated at least 30 trainings to key stakeholders that include: security, local and state-level actors, and community leaders with excellent command of trainees in relevant fields;
  • In-depth knowledge of Northern Nigeria

2). Technical Service Consultant: Design, Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (Assistant)

Position Summary

  • The Design, Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning Assistant supports the design, development, and implementation of a monitoring and evaluation system within the assigned area. S/he gathers, analyzes, and processes complex information related to all aspects of program activity implementation.
  • The incumbent carries out his/her work according to an established standard operating procedure for collecting data, monitoring project progress, and measuring program inputs/outputs.
  • S/he will work under the direct supervision of the Design, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (DMEL) Officer and will work closely with the project team.

Responsibilities

  • Support in coordinating weekly with DMEL officers to determine priority tasks. Ensure the state team is aware of and up to date on all DMEL tasks and reports.
  • Conduct monthly DQAs and site visits during the project implementation phase in assigned areas.
  • In concert with the DMEL Team, support in developing Monitoring and Evaluation plans for field-level Activities.
  • Implement Search M&E standards around project planning meetings, data collection tools, and monitoring missions as required.
  • Identify lessons learned, constraints, and project impacts based on determined theme and/or sector for inclusion in Monthly and Quarterly Reports.
  • Share observations from monitoring visits with the DMEL officer when findings demonstrate questionable actions.
  • Support quality, conflict-sensitive, innovative, and effective DMEL process in the middle belt with close support from the DMEL officer;
  • Work closely with the communications team on the development of advocacy and outreach materials to promote research results.

Required qualifications & experiences

  • Bachelor’s degree in research methodologies, social sciences-related disciplines; or a related area;

  • Knowledge of participatory methods, mixed methods, outcome mapping, and/or impact evaluation techniques;

3). Regional Specialist, Programs

Team Summary

  • The Regional Program Management team has oversight on the management of restricted grants to drive impact and ensure compliance.
  • The Programs team supports in-country Directors and Managers to effectively follow Search and donor policies and procedures regarding grant implementation.
  • This function commences with the signing of a grant and completes with the final close-out.
  • This involves monitoring, reporting, and where appropriate, engagement with donors. It involves oversight on both program quality and compliance, working in close collaboration with other departments, including Finance, the Institutional Learning Team, Strategy Alignment, Program Quality, Communications, and Human Resources.
  • The Regional Program Management team aims to build and strengthen the capacity of program implementation at Search and with partner staff in-country.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates grants start up, grants close out and documents lessons learned in the course of implementation.
  • Manages the reporting process across the region in close coordination with country teams and the Regional Program Managers.
  • Manages or supports donor communication.
  • Monitors and enforces donor compliance.
  • Facilitates program implementation review, spending review, and forecasting.

Contributions:

  • Reviews all internal and external reporting, ensuring high-quality, well-written, and timely reports meet donor and Search requirements, with support from the country reporting teams (Program Associates/Project Managers/Country Directors/Program Managers). Ensures that draft reports disseminated for review and feedback by senior management team, relevant technical advisers, and HQ staff are of high quality and in compliance prior to submitting the final report to the donor.
  • Liaises with donors and implementing partners regarding program implementation and compliance. The Regional Program Specialist will always coordinate closely with the country management teams who have the primary responsibility in donor and partner engagement.
  • Ensures that the PMTs are regularly updated and utilized. Proactively supports needs for no-cost extensions, budget realignments, or other budgetary changes.
  • Provides technical backstopping and deploys to country offices from time to time based on existing priorities.
  • Orients relevant staff of all departments to donor requirements and works closely with all Search departments and country offices to comply with donor requirements. Will provide coaching, capacity building, and training opportunities based on identified needs and the request of country teams.
  • Analyzes the potential risks related to Search’s current program implementation practices and articulates recommendations for mitigation of risks.
  • Monitors the compliance of a strategic portfolio of grants, working in collaboration with the regional and country teams responsible for implementing these grants.
  • Monitors the program implementation and budget variance analysis of key strategic grants to ensure objectives are met. Will be responsible for supervising the Program Management dashboard for the full region.
  • Participates in reflection sessions and discussions on adaptation. Facilitates support for technical assistance where appropriate. Ensures lessons learnt are well documented and disseminated for better program implementation in future, in line with best practice in reflective practice and adaptive management.
  • Supports review of proposals, budgets, and budget narrative to ensure completeness and compliance with stipulated donor rules and regulations.
  • Maintains and updates a donor reporting tracker to track all upcoming reports and track timeliness of report submission.
  • Facilitates or supports grants start up, reviews, and closure meetings and follows up on action points.
  • Other duties that are broadly in line with the above key contributions as assigned.

  • Routinely coordinates with colleagues and consultants on-site and in the field and resolves problem situations with tact.
  • Represents, as assigned, selected programs or projects and other organizations, including donors, vendors, and international and local partners.

Education and Experience

  • Typically BS / BA with minimum 9 years’ experience.
  • English/French required – must be fluent/native in one of the two languages and have at least an intermediate to advanced level of comprehension of the other.
