Title: Family Physician
Location: Niger
Purpose of the Role:
- The Family Physician, reporting directly to the Head of Medicine, holds the responsibility of delivering high-quality medical care, encompassing patient examinations and treatment of diseases. This role involves routine check-ups for patients, addressing non-emergency medical concerns, and implementing preventive measures to promote healthy lifestyles.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine check-ups on patients to assess their health conditions and identify potential issues.
- Handle emergency calls, admit and manage inpatients, and operate outpatient clinics.
- Provide guidance on healthy habits (diet, hygiene, etc.) and preventive actions to enhance overall health.
- Examine patients with illnesses, evaluate symptoms, and make diagnostic assessments.
- Ask probing questions to uncover the causes of illnesses.
- Formulate informed diagnoses based on medical knowledge and patients’ medical histories.
- Prescribe and interpret laboratory test results to gain additional insights into underlying infections or abnormalities.
- Prescribe medications and offer comprehensive instructions for their administration.
- Collaborate effectively with other physicians, physician assistants, and nurses to create a high-performing medical team.
- Examine and treat injuries, and refer patients to specialists when necessary (e.g., ophthalmologist, orthopedist, neurologist, etc.).
- Maintain detailed records of patients’ medical histories, surgical procedures, and significant information using Helium plus.
- Utilize patient health data for medical analysis.
- Foster a climate of trust and compassion with patients.
- Stay current with medical developments and best practices by attending conferences and seminars.
- Conduct ward rounds for medical patients.
- Fulfill any additional tasks assigned.
- Take responsibility for personal career development and staying updated with the latest knowledge and research in the field.
- Provide emergency care as required, depending on the specialty.
- Perform surgical procedures within the scope of Family Medicine surgical competency.
- Keep medical practicing licenses current and update HR records annually.
- Understand and adhere to the reporting and escalation lines, with reporting to the Head of Department and then the Medical Director.
- Pursue personal research and ethical publishing, with a desirable target of at least 2 annual publications.
- Deliver comprehensive medical services to family members of all ages and genders on an ongoing basis.
Hierarchy:
This role reports to the Head of Medicine.
Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor of Medicine (MBBS) registered with MDCN and holding a valid practicing license.
- 5 – 7 years of work experience.
- Postgraduate/Residency qualification in Family Medicine.
- Proven experience as a Family Physician.
- Current Practicing License.
- Fellowship of National Postgraduate Medical College or West African College in a relevant subspecialty or its equivalent.
- Strong understanding of examination methodologies and diagnostics.
- Excellent knowledge of infectious diseases, their symptoms, and epidemiology.
- In-depth knowledge of legal medical guidelines and best practices.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to empathize with patients.
- Strong quantitative skills.
- Respect for patient confidentiality.
- Compassionate and approachable demeanor.
