Title: Legal Officer

Location: Lagos

Employment Type: Full-time

Job Responsibilities

  • Drafting routine and non-complex legal documents such as Loan Agreements, Service Level Agreements, and Guarantees/Undertakings, Deed of assignments, etc.
  • Vetting and preparing legal documents/contracts/agreements that impose liability/responsibilities/duties on the Bank in its relationships with stakeholders.
  • Providing legal opinions and advice to Management.
  • Ensuring the safekeeping and retrieval of all security documents.
  • Liaising with the Company Secretary and external solicitors.
  • Safeguarding and properly filing all Board Committee minutes.
  • Liaising with the Mortgage Banking Department to conduct searches and verify documents submitted by customers for credit and account opening for corporate customers.
  • Maintaining and updating an accurate shareholders register, and distributing share certificates and dividends.
  • Managing shareholders’ relationships concerning Complaints, Inquiries, and Requests.
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the HOD and Management

Person Specification

  • LLB degree from a recognized institution, Master’s in Law (LLM) will be an added advantage
  • Minimum of 5 years post-call experience as a legal officer or similar role
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Excellent organization and crisis management skills
  • Proficient understanding of commercial law, especially concerning financial transactions, contracts, and negotiations
